College can be pretty tough. Your roommate will become your lifesaver many times. Here are 6 reasons they are so important.
1. You have found a forever friend.
You may go day to day without even noticing it but this person that you are living with will be a friend to you forever. You may go your separate ways for a little bit in the next few years, and that’s okay but their name will still be one of the first people you think of when you think back on your college days.
2. They are always there for you to talk to.
When you come in the room crying late at night after spending hours fighting with a dumb boy or from 8 hours of studying for a test tomorrow that you know you're going to fail, they will always be there to ask you what's wrong.
Sometimes you just need someone to vent to about everything that's going on in your life. They will listen to you and try to give you advice because even if you don’t realize it, they really do care.
3. They will help you get through your worst days.
Not every day is easy. Being away from home is hard at first but, the good thing about that is there is someone living in the same room as you, going through the same thing. Anytime you're bored, you have someone to do spontaneous things with.
Your roommate knows you almost more than you know yourself. When you're having a bad day, they will bring you your favorite ice cream or candy, just to make you smile.
4. You have someone to borrow clothes from.
Finding something to wear to class can be stressful but finding something to wear out on a Saturday night is even worse. Having a roommate means having two wardrobes to go through.
5. They make life exciting.
There is no dull moments. Even just hanging out in sweats can be fun. You bring out the best in each other. Cooking dinner can be fun, binge-watching your favorite show on Netflix can be fun, and even studying all night for that one class you're trying to pass can be made fun. You have someone there to make the smallest things the big things.
6. They become family.
Your roommate becomes the sister you never had. When your parents come to town, they take you both out for dinner and treat them like their own. You may also fight like sisters but at the end of the day, you make up because you have something to tell them.
