As a college student, there are various events, decisions, and aspects that define your experience at school. But who we are and how we survive college comes to light, when we face our time head on. We truly discover ourselves when we enter the college world, and react to the different phases we enter as progress towards our goals of obtaining a degree. Every individual enters with their story, and leaves with a new one. With every school we find ourselves experiencing college differently, but we definitely leave with a story and a new found reality that allows us to recreate ourselves and push us a step closer to achieving our goals.

If you are anything like me and attend a university here are some ways the characters in Gossip Girl define your time at school.

We were freshman at one point, driven and excited for the adventures and opportunities college was going to bring us. Like Blair Waldorf we have to keep going until we obtain what we want and do not stop at any roadblocks. We enter college hoping to get the degree we step through the doors of college for. As inexperienced students we have to keep going and continue to grow closer to finishing your degree regardless of what college was yet to bring. At every stage of college, relate back to the initial feelings you got on the first day of classes your freshman year.

Each semester we promise ourselves that we would get our work done, and get straight A’s and do great. We even avoid plans during midterm and finals week to ensure that we actually get work done. But how many of us simply binge watch an entire season of our favorite show on Netflix? As college students we avoid things and procrastinate and occasionally deny the work we truly have to do.

How many of us have heard this from our parents? Do we always consider the effects that our decisions may end up leaving on the world? However, many of us know that our college experience is going to define us in ways we would have never imagined while in high school. College is that step that give us the sense of everlasting effect of our decisions and what our futures may look like.

Those sleepless nights at various points of the semester teach us something special. They teach us our capabilities as students and our abilities to work at any hour of the day. Pretty much setting us up for being our own entrepreneurs and schemers like Blair Waldorf turns out to be. Getting through assignments and hours of work shows us our true ability to get work done. A little push and motivation allows us to get through every semester despite the countless all nighters that leave us feeling tired and at times hopeless.

We all have those moments when we just want to give up and let go of the progress we have made. All because giving up is the easier thing to do. However, if we bypass the hardships we get the reward. If we push through the time we spend in college, especially the difficult times, at the end we get reward with that degree in our hands. The degree that will set us up for what we aspire to be.

College is a journey where one finds their abilities not only as a student, but as an individual who gets a chance to show the world what they are truly capable of. Gossip Girl isn't just a show which portrays a society that only those who are a part of can tell tales about; but it's the journey of a college student that we can create chatter about. Like the characters of Gossip Girl, we face the reality of which we live in and discover ourselves among the events that we face.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
