College Life Begins

The best of times and the worst of times.

College Life Begins

College is one of the best chapters of your life. Things in high school are not the same as in college; your routines change, your outlook changes and you become just like any other sleep-deprived college student. Do not fret: Here are just 11 things you can expect just within the first few months of your college career. May the odds forever be in your favor.

Wardrobe

T-shirts and leggings with tennis shoes will become a staple in your wardrobe. You may need to add an extra dresser just to hold all your t-shirts and leggings. Soon enough you’ll be wearing a baseball cap at least four out of the seven days.

Friends

You find your best friends in college. The ones that will be with you long after you graduate. You find your true friends. These are the friends who will hold your hair at 3 a.m. when you are puking your guts up or the ones that will be down for an adventure or a cookout run.

Sleep

Sleep will only become a dream. The concept of sleep will slowly slip away. Soon you will be guzzling coffee just to get you through the day.

Food

Ramen, pizza rolls, and rice are the food items that you will hate because you eat them so often, but when you are home nothing will sound better then a bowl of ramen at midnight.

Snow Days

College snow days are very rare; might as well grab your dogsled and bundle up because more than likely you’ll be walking in a foot of snow.

Events

From football to basketball and every sport in between, your school spirit will show. These are the memories you will hold on to forever.

Rain, Rain Go Away

A phrase college students say often. Don’t forget your rain boots or umbrella. It rains more on a college campus then it does in Seattle. Might want to invest in a boat; it will be the easiest way to get to class.

Library

The library will become your second home. Your bad won’t only contain your homework, but phone charger, snacks, and maybe even a blanket. You will have your specific spot, and if anyone is sitting in it you will be ready to go to war.

Coffee

Easily addicting. Stopping in at your local coffee shop or Starbucks will become part of your everyday routine. The baristas will soon know your name and your order, and there is no shame in that.

Parking

Get ready to fight to the death for a parking spot miles from your residence hall.

Adventures

There is no plan in college. Most of the time everything you do, including homework, is spur of the moment. Your friends will call you up to go to the mall, hiking, or a party. Always be prepared because the fun never stops.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
