Closing the chapter on high school and moving on to college is a necessary and exciting part of a young person’s life; however, for most people, your high school friends will never become a part of the past. In fact, leaving behind that close group of pals from high school can often be the hardest part of the transition into college. Some of us were lucky enough to bring one of these friends with us, and, while the list of benefits is infinite, here are 15 of the greatest reasons why going to college with a friend from high school is the best:
- You have the same friends from high school so planning visits to other colleges is a total breeze – not to mention you actually look forward to the road-trips together.
- An abundance of high school friends can visit you at the same time because you can split them between your two places – and then it’s like an early high school reunion at your college.
- You live relatively close at home, which means you have someone to make the trip home with and to help make the journey somewhat enjoyable.
- You have the perfect study buddy, and you’re most likely on the same page because you both had the same physics teacher junior year that never actually taught you.
- You always have someone to go out with and you always have a great time together – you might wake up embarrassed of yourselves, but at least you had fun!
- You feel comfortable enough with your high school friend to wake her up at 8 a.m. because “something crazy happened to me last night and I have to tell someone about it right now,” and you know she will actually listen to you without judgement.
- You have someone to back you up when you tell the rest of your high school friends about someone you’ve been talking to – “Yea guys, she’s right, he’s actually cute! Facebook doesn’t do him justice.”
- You have an ally when explaining why your college is the best to the rest of your high school friends.
- In the summer, you have someone to share your excitement about going back in the fall with.
- You have the perfect confidant to vent to if/when you ever get homesick because she understands your life back at home.
- You have someone to be completely honest with you and tell you when you messed up – they’ve known you for years so being blunt is not only allowed but encouraged.
- You actually have someone to talk about the “remember senior year when…” moments with.
- Your closet is their closet and vice versa – you take “what’s mine is yours” to another level.
- If one of you meets someone in college that reminds you of one of your high school friends, you have to tell the other person because you know they will get along great too.
- You both have a mutual understanding that no college friends can ever come close to.
