Hmm… this is a hard one; something that I seem to find myself contemplating quite often. It’s something that even as a sophomore in college I don’t seem to have a clear grasp of. From a young age, you're expected to find yourself and place in high school and oh, if that doesn’t work, then college will be your time.
But, what if it’s not?
I think about this often. I think finding yourself and your place is a lot deeper than we assume it to be. It isn’t something that happens overnight, or even within the first 20 years of your life. Props to you if you’re that person that's figured out your place in life already. I can honestly say that I haven't.
Every day I learn something new, either about myself or life in general. That's what's most beautiful about life; the beauty of the unknown. Each decision we make leads us to our next (well, that’s how I see it). Life is full of ups and downs; struggles and success; blessings and lessons. I believe it’s how we let those affect us that allows us to find our “place,” or, who we are supposed to be.
People often ask me how I balance my faith and college. For me, sometimes I understand the question and sometimes it shocks me. There are days I am lost, hurting and feel alone. Those day’s suck and my faith seems low. All in all though, I think my faith is what gives me balance. Without it, I wouldn’t be me- and isn’t that the point of all this? Finding yourself and place?
College is different for everyone, for me I’ve learned a lot so far. LOL, yes I've learned; shocker! Not just in class but about life, myself and people. I believe each struggle in life challenges us, and how we handle those challenges defines us.
So whatever road your life takes you down, just trust that each step you take and each path you choose is leading you to find your place. Who cares how long it takes you to get there- just know you’ll figure it all out one day.
My best advice to a college student or ANYONE… is slow down. Appreciate what you have. Love with your whole heart. Be kind and accepting. Those are qualities we all search for in others, so find them in yourself. Do not be afraid to be you, because no one can "be you" better.
So, truth is... I don't know if college is where you find yourself or your place. I know I still come across myself struggling with it at times. What I do know though, is that life is beautiful and fun. Take it as it is, use it to learn and grow. Plus, HEY, you may find what you're looking for on the way.
