It's such a beautiful thing when you check your mailbox and see that there is an envelope or even a package with your name on it.

There are a lot of emotions that one feels when going back to school in the fall. I know I feel a million different things continuously throughout my final days in my hometown. Once you're back at school, the many different feels will hit you, and they will hit you HARD. But no worries, the best way to prepare you for your incoming roller coaster of thoughts throughout the year is to show you exactly what will happen: Spongebob style.

1. Leaving home:

Whether you're an incoming freshman or even used to this "back to college" transition, saying bye to friends and family from the place you originally called home is tough. There may be tears, but the feeling of sadness will pass once you get your barrings at school.

2. Moving in with your roommates:

No matter if you're moving into a dorm room with random people, moving into a fraternity or sorority house filled with "brothers" and "sisters" that you love so much, or moving into an apartment with some of your closest friends, this part is going to be one of the best. Getting to have friends that you can live with is incredible, you become a family. There may be times where you become annoyed or feelings may get hurt, but they are all outweighed by the laughs and good times you and they will share.

3. Starting classes:

Yeah, no, a class doesn't get better because you're in college. At least you'll have a LOT of other people in a lecture to suffer with, and most of the time you'll be surrounded by people with the same major.

4. The weekends:

No matter how you spend your weekend (being safe but also having fun), you will feel the utmost happiness when you don't have to set an alarm for a 9 am because it's Saturday. Instead, you'll be getting ready for...

5. Sports games:

One of the best things you will experience is a Saturday morning football tailgate and a game after the pre-celebration. Being part of the home team's posse is a cool feeling, you're part of a large university family and get to show off your pride with people that love your school just as much as you do.

6. Trying to stay in shape:

This one is always a tough one. Making sure you keep yourself healthy is incredibly important. The problem is, the IDEA of going to the gym sounds great, but actually getting out of bed and going is hard. The worst part of it, if you live in the dorm or in a place that food is made for you, you're going to probably eat. A lot.

7. Eating. A lot:

This is, in fact, a visual representation of what you may be like on your favorite meal's day. Whether the dining hall is serving tacos or your roommates are cooking up spaghetti, you will probably be eating like a maniac.

8. Getting presents from parents:

It's such a beautiful thing when you check your mailbox and see that there is an envelope or even a package with your name on it. It's even more beautiful to open it up and find presents and money inside. Just make sure you call your parents and thank them before you drop the $20 your mom gave you on a t shirt from your school's bookstore.

9. Wearing school spirit:

This is always a good feeling because you're supporting your favorite school in the best comfort colors tee that you could find. Remember: always. buy. comfort colors.

10. Finals week:

Get ready for sleepless nights, sleepless days, and overall sleepless everything. There will be stress, sweat, and tears, and you will want to die just a little bit. Just remember to study hard and take breaks, and do NOT cram the night before! (been there, done that, not my brightest idea). It'll all be okay in the end!

11. Leaving school for long breaks:

Having to say bye to friends and family is hard, that was established when you had to leave to come to school. Now, it'll be even harder because of the multitude of people you've met and spent time with within the last semester or year. Saying "see ya later" to people that you had some of your best (and maybe even a few worst) times with while going through the motions of college is hard, but it's only a see you later, and breaks will go by much faster than you think.

With school starting soon, these feelings will be hitting you fast. Embrace them! You're ready.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
