10 Lessons You Learn Early On In College

Within the first couple months of college, so many things change. You become a completely different person and with out realizing you learn important life lessons that you will forever be thankful for. Along the way you learn many of these things on your own time, I know I'm lucky I did.

1. You learn that the friends you thought would stick around don't and the ones you never expected to be your friends are.

You meet some of the best friends you have ever had and get the best support from these people. They become your other half.

2. You start to know what true autonomy is.

You learn time management, how to do your own wash, and even how to spend money wisely. No one is there to tell you what to eat or when to wake up for class. There is no more mom and dad telling you what to do or doing your wash for you. The freedom is nice, but you have to know how to use it to the best of your ability.

3. You learn quickly that you need to advocate for yourself.

Let's be honest, half of the time you do not email your professor back or the professor never looks at his/her email. You have to learn when to talk to people who are important face to face, especially when it is important.

4. You become an expert at multitasking.

With so many things to do every day of the week, you don't really have a choice. It's becomes essential.

5. You gain so much motivation.

Early on in your college career you begin to notice the change because as much as we do not want to go to class sometimes, you just have to go. Life consists of a lot of things we do not want to do, but we have to do them to become successful.

6. You learn that note-taking is always a must.

No matter if your in class, at a meeting, or at work it just is something you are known to do. No it did not stop when we graduated high school. Actually, you don't get told when to take notes either, so it is all up to you.

7. You are now resourceful.

You start taking advantage of all of the free stuff on campus, student discounts, and ways to make your experience easier and stress free. Unfortunately, you learn really fast how to manage the little money you have to spend.

8. You adapt to learning and working in all different environments.

Whether if it is your tight hot dorm room, a class full of students, or even around people who are talking or distracting you, you will still do your work. When you have to get things done, you are going to get them done no matter where you are.

9. There always needs to be time in college to just relax and have fun.

Nothing is wrong with taking a break on the weekend to hang out with your friends and socially drink a drink. There are so many things to do on campus, like going to sport events, joining clubs, or going to school activities that will give you a must needed study break.

10. As much as you love college, you will appreciate your vacations.

You finally finish your last final and winter break or summer is right around the corner. It is the best feeling that you get a short amount of time off to have fun and enjoy life, with out having to write a paper every week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
