There comes a time when the student union and or dining hall will either be too far away, too expensive or simply not appetizing— it might even be all three. In these instances, you need to make sure your dorm or apartment is prepared with the following foods:

Ramen

Best to start off strong with the meal you have on your weakest days. Ramen is so easy to pop in the microwave and it comes in so many flavors!

Spinach

Spinach is an absolute staple. You can toss it in sandwiches, wraps or make salads with it. Warning- if you saute or steam it, plan for 90% of your veggies to vanish.

Rice/Pasta

Rice can be the base for a stir-fry, burrito bowl and more. Whatever veggies you have lying around can be tossed in with some rice. The same goes for pasta.

Beans

Beans are a great way to get protein in on the days you don't have time to cook meat. They also can be added to a variety of dishes, making them a great addition for your apartment.

Peanut Butter

Sandwiches, celery sticks, toast, cookies, bagels, smoothies- there's nothing this spread can't do!

Potatoes

This is another versatile food that you'll always like to have around the kitchen.

Assorted Spices

If you can find a bottle with a variety of spices in one, you're set. My Italian mix spice bottle was a life saver when I didn't feel like cooking veggies for my pasta but wanted some flavor.

Salt and Pepper

You never know when you'll need a little extra flavor.

Eggs

Eggs are a base in so many baked goods and breakfast foods- stock up and learn all the ways you can cook this great staple!

Olive Oil

It's great for cooking or as a light salad dressing,

You never know when your roommates will need a pick-me-up or if you'll need to bring a dessert to an event. (Also a good way to meet your neighbors or the cute boys down the hall).

Yogurt

A great snack or a quick breakfast, yogurt can also be made into a healthy dessert.

Read the above description for yogurt, same deal with great nutrients!

Honey

For my tea drinkers out there. Also great on toast with cottage cheese.

Oatmeal

So good with fruit or cinnamon.

Ground Meats

They're beyond easy to toss on the stove and fry up.

Tortillas

Wraps and taco nights need tortillas!

Chips

Sometimes you gotta give into that peckish feeling.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
