College Can Be Discouraging, But Don’t Give Up Yet

It's the best of times, but it doesn't always seem that way.

All it takes is something simple, like missing the bus to class, having to rush around in the morning, or forgetting your notebook for one of your classes. In that one instant, a day at college can go from being a great one to one that you just want to be done with so you can go back to sleep.

To tell the truth from a college student's perspective: college isn't always glorious. It's not always laughter and happiness; days are often filled with stress and business that can be hard to keep up with. When the hustle and bustle of one day become two days...five days...ten days, it can feel like life is working against you. I know that there have been days for me where all I can think is, "I just want a break...please!"

Even though college can be filled with all sorts of emotions, both positive and negative, it's important to remember that you are here for a reason. You were meant to be here in these moments. No matter how you feel, know that you are not alone; many college students can experience the same feelings. Although life will confront you with struggles, there are reasons behind why you have stayed and why you have not decided to quit.

College isn't made for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with that. Although it can be discouraging at times, I have to keep reminding myself that my hard work will pay off when I am doing something in my life that I truly love. My life wouldn't be the same without the experiences I have had and the friendships I have made while away at school.

So, no, your days won't be perfect in college; rarely any day is. It can be tough, but it's also made for tough people. Your dreams are waiting for you after the long days. Each day won't be quite like college in the movies but that's a good thing. You're living your story, not someone else's. Stay determined, and don't give up yet.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
