There is no argument that college is a totally different ball game from high school. High school teachers claim they're trying to prepare you for the steps ahead, but in all honesty nothing can really prepare you until you get there. I will explain to you some of the differences that you will face in college.
1. So Long MLA Formatting
Likely the most annoying change from high school to college is that you'll never use MLA formatting for your papers ever again. You'll either use APA or Turabian (or possibly another formatting that isn't taught in high school). It won't be easy at first, but eventually you'll stop hating your high school teachers for the lack of preparation and understand the formatting style.
2. Lazy Days are Frequented
While you may have been someone who dressed for success in high school, college is a lot more relaxed. If you want to go to class with no make up on, no judgments. If you want to just wear sweats and throw your hair up, you'll be in the same boat as many other girls. Don't feel like you have to be all fashionable all the time.
3. Responsibility
You'll have more responsibility in college than you ever did in high school. In high school your teachers taught you what you needed to know and told you what you had to learn for each test. Well, your professors will expect you to study every note, every book, and every online source given to you and you won't know until the test what will be included. Likewise, some professors have you learn the lectures on your own time and you'll have to take that time to learn the material or else you'll flunk the class. Remember with that, attendance policies aren't always a thing in college. Go to class even if the professor doesn't take attendance. Take every step you can to succeed.
4. Social Life
The social life in high school was a pyramid. Either you were at the top of the food chain or you weren't and never would be. In college, you get to make a new name for yourself. Not only that, but the social pyramid doesn't exist. You have your group of friends who are similar to you and that's that. No one cares about what you did in high school and no one really cares about the drama you get into now. You do you and the right people will love you to pieces.
