College Is Different, But Yes, I Am Ready

Everyone says that high school will be the best years of your life. Some students agree while others disagree. Ultimately yes, I believe that I will cherish some of my high school memories forever, but it's not all happiness and rainbows.

Being a girl in a small high school with a small graduating class was a huge blessing. Of course, there were the groups just like any other high school. You had the "populars", the athletes, the choir kids, the dancers, the nerds, etc. I was fortunate enough to have a good group of friends. I didn't necessarily fit into a clique, and I only had a few true friends, but life was good.

It is pretty easy to get caught up into the everyday routines of going to school and hanging out with the same small group of people. Until major changes occur. I've lost multiple friends throughout high school, some were for the best but some were expected. Friendships hit rough patches and they can be hard to deal with.

I was also the girl who struggled to choose a college at first. It can be very difficult, but you'll eventually be led to the right choice.

The greatest realizations don't happen until after you graduate from high school though. After receiving a diploma you'll shortly realize that you won't be going back to those old creaky floors in the fall, instead you'll be running across a huge college campus. Instead of attending Friday night football games, you'll be cramming for a major test you have the next day. Instead of recognizing all the faces in the hallways, you'll be trying to make a few new friends.

And let's not forget about the summer before your freshman year. After graduating high school you're bound to realize that all your friendships will not last. Your future roommates will become some of your best friends and dorm room shopping is very fun, but not very cheap.

College is going to be different than high school and YES for the thousandth time, I am ready. I'm more ready then I'll ever be.

Through all the struggles, and trials I will face I know I'm ready to get out there on my own and tackle this crazy thing called life. My high school yeas were memorable, but I can promise you my college years will be some of the best years of my life.

And through it all I know I will always have our wonderful magnificent God on my side. Isaiah 43:2 states, "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you." and if that's not reassuring enough, I don't know what is.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
