At college there are a set of rules that we live by. These are just a few things that we all live by when we leave for the first time and start to find ourselves in this new world.
1. Set 20 alarms to wake up for your 8 a.m.
Everyone will have their dreaded 8 a.m. class at one point. When you are in school you no longer have your mom making you go to bed at like ten and knock on your door in the morning to yell for you to get up. So, to eliminate this problem you should set like 20 alarms every other minute so you know that there is no way you will be sleeping in
2. Flex is your friend.
Every school has their own special meal plan that comes with some extra money that you can use around campus that isn’t just limited to food. Ours at Shippensburg is called Flex. Each semester you are reimbursed a certain amount of flex that if you don’t use by the end of the semester just goes away. It’s nice when you have some friends come in clutch at the end when you have friends that barely use their money and then will willingly buy you a snack here or there. Thanks guys!
3. The Ramen stereotype is real.
There is never a time when you don’t hear “Ramen” and “college” in the same sentence. Personally I was never a huge fan of Ramen Noodles. But, my dad bought me a box of them when I left, and they were all I ever ate. It was raining out and you don’t feel like going to the dining hall… you grab a pack of ramen, you are watching a movie and want an quick snack… you grab a pack of Ramen, you go out with your friends for the night and you come back at like 2:30 a.m. and are hungry… you grab some Ramen. The list will go on and on! Plus they are like 59 cents so of course you grab a pack of Ramen.
4. Just be yourself.
This is one very important rule especially for the first year students. If you happen to be someone that likes to sleep around, that’s okay no one cares! Just don’t try to hide it. And especially don’t go around screaming about it to the world. Throughout the year everyone will slowly begin to see who you really are. We are all going through this whole making new friend’s process together so just relax and be your awesome self!
5. The Golden Rule: We Are Broke Together
We as a whole are in a whole lot of debt together. This is the big first step to becoming an adult. So with that being said we are all living off the Ramen noodles together. And I know that there are a few exceptions to this rule with kids that have parents that work at the Universities and go for free… this is not an excuse for you to drive around your very obviously expensive Mercedes around campus with all of your high end clothes! No. You pretend to be broke with the rest of us. But I’m not gonna lie if I was in your shoes I would break this rule, but I’m not so you can’t.
