When starting college, I knew I wouldn't be very open with all of the new people I'd be seeing for the next four years. I was used to all of my friends from high school and how crowded the school was. When I saw how quiet the campus was and how many times I saw the same people every day, I was culture shocked. I became way more introverted and stuck to myself because I didn't want to get behind in what I came to college to do, learn and get my degree. Sometimes I did get lonely and wonder if I should've made more friends just like everyone else. But that was never me. Until I had a literature class on coming of age and I sat behind someone who would turn out to be a very important person in my life.
We became friends so quickly because we had the same personalities, only you talked more in group discussions as I nodded quietly and agreed. I had made friends in previous classes but as soon as the class was over, they faded away; but you stayed. We knew everything about each other so fast and we just trusted each other with everything. When I began to have problems (emotionally) you were the first person I called when I needed out of my dorm room. To this day, you are the first person I ask advice from because we came from similar backgrounds as well as have identical personalities. And I thank you for that.
I always see the term "College Best Friend" being said when girls want to decipher who their best friends are. Even though I don't like the phrase, I used it as my title for this article because I think of it as a different meaning. You are one of my best friends, and the reason I chose to say college best friend is because you are the only one that understands how stressful this university can be, and how hard we have to push ourselves just to graduate on time. You have been there since my sophomore year when I needed someone to help me. You've never judged me and have always kept it as real as you can with me. Even when I am miserable, petty, and don't talk to you for days at a time, you don't get upset and think I'm being a b****. You understand how hard this school can be, as well as how hard life can be. That's why you're my college best friend--because you are the first person I met here that is genuinely here for me always.
This article may be rambling a bit, but I can't put into words how much I appreciate your friendship and all the advice you give me. We would go to war and back for each other and I just want to say thank you for being the best college best friend I could have ever asked for. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't sit behind you on that first day of class. You're the greatest of all time!
