Why I'm Grateful I Ventured Away From My Hometown For College

Life is all about constantly growing, and I love feeling that change within myself. I know if I personally went to college within reach of my home and family, I wouldn't be where or who I am today.

I truly believe that new environments, as uncomfortable as they can be at first, are a necessity for sparking change and achieving what you want to do.

Originally, I was planning on attending a university close to my house; however, I applied to one college around an hour and a half away which, after visiting, I fell in love with. I cannot even being to describe how grateful I am for making the decision to go to school in Philly.

Moving out is something that everyone must go through, so why not get used to that process sooner rather than later. Everybody experiences a little bit of hesitation with these things, and it can be a difficult process. With my future career goals, I want to move to a big city which means I have to get used to being away from my small town and family.

I was a pretty independent person before I went to college, but now I am even more comfortable with being on my own. Even though an hour and a half away doesn't sound like much, it's enough for me to get that feeling of moving out and a sense of independence.

College is a great time for branching out, discovering what you're passionate about, and then working on pursuing that goal. Having a separate space away from home where I am focused on school has been an essential tool for me. I feel like I can really get into my studies and take advantage of the opportunities Philly offers.

For me personally, I'm so grateful that I chose a college far from home because it has so many incredible benefits; I can't wait to feel comfortable achieving my goals because of this choice.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
