One of Liberty University's most popular events is Coffeehouse - a campus-wide talent show with acts rivaling those you would see on national television. The Student Activities committee plans and hosts this event held once a semester. Each Coffeehouse in the fall semester is Christmas-themed, but the spring semester has more variety. Previous themes include British Invasion and the 90's. This semester Spring Coffeehouse will be held on April 9th and the theme is Legends.
I'm excited to see where Student Activities goes with this theme. We may be seeing a lot of Classic Rock, Oldies, and hopefully some iconic chart toppers. So here's a little bit of what I think would make Coffeehouse legendary (pun intended):
1. QUEEN!
A philosophy instilled in me by my brother is that Queen was and is still one of the very bests bands that has ever existed. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a classic but it's a bit predictable. I understand that "Fat Bottomed Girls" might be controversial, but let's have an open mind about it. Bottom line: Just give me some Queen.
2. Elvis
With a theme like "Legends" we're almost guaranteed an Elvis impersonation. I'm curious to see how this turns out.
3. D-Trex
The most fantastic and well-known dance team at Liberty never disappoints. I have no idea what to expect from them this semester but I have complete faith in their abilities. Part of me hopes that we'll see a mash-up of legends through the decades.
4. Fillers
Between acts Student Activities always shows videos and includes the audience in competitions. I wouldn't be disappointed if we continued the tradition of trivia and lip sync battles.
5. Boy bands
If you know anything about me, you know that I have an unhealthy obsession with boy bands. And there have been plenty of legendary boy bands through the ages. As stated before, I want to see some Queen. But we can't forget that The Beatles were a boy band. Maybe you don't think that The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC are legends, but you're wrong. (Actually, they probably won't make an appearance, but a girl can dream.)
6. The Vegan Llamas
If you have been to previous Coffeehouses in recent years, you know what I'm talking about. This group has a look and a sound that you just can't forget. They could perform another Christmas song and I wouldn't complain.
7. The Spice Girls
I mentioned boy bands, but everybody needs a good girl band in their life too. Maybe throw in some Britney Spears too? Okay, these aren't quite legends but I digress...
8. The Rolling Stones
Everyone knows that The Rolling Stones is a legendary band and if one of their songs doesn't make it on the set-list, I'll probably throw a tantrum.
If you haven't noticed, this list basically turned into what a McKayla-themed Coffeehouse would look like, but I'm sticking to it. Tune in next week for a rant on how it how it exceeded all of my expectations. And don't forget to buy your Coffeehouse: The Legends tickets here.
