Hello world! I think it's safe to say that everyone has had a moment where they "can't even" on a given day. Am I right? I'm mostly talking about that super tired feeling you get when you don't get enough sleep, or you've completely exhausted your energy supply before the day has really begun. Then you head over to the dark (roast) side, and find your gorgeous self some coffee. I'm not talking about those fluffy frappes that are all sugar and no caffeine. I'm talking about that extra large roast of the day with two shots of espresso because you mean business! Unless you brew at home, then you just add WAY more grounds than you probably need. Alas, you find yourself human again within minutes, and can continue on with your day. Isn't coffee amazing! A stimulant drug, with the possibility of being as addictive as cocaine, without most of the harmful side effects. We have access to coffee almost everywhere we go; which I'm sure is one of the reasons it's so easy to get hooked on! Besides the fact we go from being evil gremlins to actual people! Anyhow, coffee is brilliant and here are some things you might not know about it!
1. There are two types of coffee beans—Arabica and Robusta.
Most of the coffee beans grown are Arabica! The Robusta beans are slightly more bitter and have double the caffeine!
2. Coffee is a fruit!
Back in the day, the berries were mixed with fat to create an energy-rich snack!
3. The smell of coffee wakes you up.
Scientists report that inhaling the aroma of coffee can alter activity in the brain, which reduces the effects of sleep deprivation!
4. A dark roast contains less caffeine.
Contrary to popular belief, a dark roast coffee has less caffeine than a light roast coffee. The flavor of a dark roast is stronger, but roasting the bean for longer periods of time actually burns some of the caffeine away.
5. George Washington... invented instant coffee!
Not the President, a Belgian man living in Guatemala named George Washington! You were excited weren't you?
6. How long do you have to yell to heat up a cup of coffee?
Eight years, seven months, and six days. Physics.
7. It tastes amazing!
You can't go wrong with a good cup of coffee. It tastes great and makes you feel great too!
Coffee makes us human and plays a huge role in our lives. So enjoy it! Go home and brew a pot, or check out the local coffee shops! Coffee comes in handy any time of the day. You can drink it in the morning to wake you up, during coffee breaks, on the way and during school/work, with dessert, or while studying for your exams!
