Why Coffee Is Better Than People

You look forward to spending time with it. It brightens your day more than a new episode of "Parks and Recreation." You cannot fathom ever having to live without it. Its smooth, dark mixture is more appealing than your last relationship. It’s coffee. Many people could not function without their morning coffee, including myself. When you heavily rely on coffee, though, your necessary morning coffee becomes your midday coffee, afternoon coffee, and evening coffee. Eighty percent of the time, I prefer coffee over any other beverage. One hundred percent of the time, I prefer coffee over people.

It always responds to me when I want it to. If I want coffee when I wake up, I can set the coffee pot to brew at 6 a.m. What if I want coffee in the afternoon? I can set that beautiful little machine to start brewing again at 3 p.m. It won’t ever ignore me. It won’t ever forget about my needs. It won’t ever leave me guessing.

Coffee is dependable. If at any time throughout the day I feel my body dragging, guess who is always there to pick me back up? Yes, coffee. It will always do its job. Coffee? Dependable. The person who never answers your texts in regards to your group project? Undependable.

Even bad coffee is good coffee. Coffee comes in many different types. You have French pressed, cold brewed, standard dripped, single serve… The list goes on and on. The beauty of the matter is that they all taste great. People, however, work a bit differently. Bad people are not good people. For example… Louisiana politicians? Pretty bad. The complimentary coffee you get in the lobby while you wait for your car oil to be changed? Still pretty darn good.

It can fit in travel mugs. People don’t fit in travel mugs. I pretty much always have a travel mug of coffee with me. It is literally liquid happiness that helps me get through my day. People? Not only are they awkward to fit into small spaces, but they also are not liquid happiness. Also, if I’m being completely honest, I wouldn’t want anyone to accompany me everywhere I go.

It doesn’t judge you for not being a morning person. Coffee won’t pester you right when you wake up. It won’t get offended when you roll your eyes at other people who love mornings. It won’t take the blankets off of you before you’re ready, and it surely won’t open the curtains to let the light in. Coffee has your back. It doesn’t jump in your face and scream, “Wake up!” It gently pats you on the back and says, “Hey, girl. Let’s take things slow.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
