Clark University is a very liberal campus. Part of the reason I love it so much is because Clark students have a history of being the leaders of social movements. Clark students have staged uprises against tuition prices, racial microaggressions and sexual assault issues. Clark students’ actions have caused the university to put condoms in residence halls, get emergency contraception at Health Services and start up a multicultural center.
Since Clark has so many clubs, I was overwhelmed during the club fair first semester. I joined many clubs I didn’t stay in because of a lack of interest or too much of a time commitment. These clubs weren’t bad, they just weren’t for me. One of the clubs I joined and stuck with is Choices. Choices has been around since 1969 and is a sexual health and pleasure resource on campus.
Choices members are called educators and are trained to know the basics of sexual health and anatomy. Basically, we’re sexperts and in the span of about three hours, educators learn more than most do in high school sex ed. Choices prides itself in using inclusive language and not making assumptions or “yucking ones yum."
The Choices office is located on the third floor of the University Center and serves as a spot for students to come purchase sex toys, lubricant, and condoms or to peruse our selection of informational flyers and books relating to sexual health. The club also brings in speakers from The Center For Sexual Pleasure And Health. These speakers talk about orgasms, sexual safety, consent and all things sex. The organization is great. In addition to bringing in speakers, we collaborate with clubs to put on events pertaining to sexual and romantic identities, consent and sexual violence. We also host sex toy bingo where the prizes are sex toys and you win by getting a bingo in the shape of a G-spot or C for clitoris.
Recently, I got elected to the E-board so I can influence the next two and a half years of progress, events, and fun.
