Let’s talk about clowns.

This whole clown scandal has been in the news quite frequently, and JMU seemed to have a bit of their own scare just a few days ago. Not knowing the entirety of the issue, I understand the gist. Just another psychotic group of people doing things that continue to add to the list of evil saturating our world. Whether they are a crazy organized gang or paid to entertain little kids at a birthday party, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a soul praise clowns. There seems to be a universal generalization that they aren’t so popular, and now with this new fame, it’s definitely not helping that reputation. I mean let’s be honest, they are usually portrayed as creeps in movies, books, TV shows, and now in real life.

As funny as this whole ordeal may seem, it is pretty serious. People are getting shot and seriously injured. Some innocent people are getting punished for just looking suspicious. It is becoming a worry for both those involved and bystanders-all over the country. And stories are popping all of the U.S., from Jersey to Indiana. It also doesn’t settle quite well knowing that are Halloween is only a few weeks away. So instead of getting solemn and frightened, a few tips to lighten up the subject. However, don’t take my joking of the scenario as me not recognizing it severity.

JMU had a bit of a scare a few days ago, that seemed to be a hoax, but highlighted our dukes spirit. From the inspiring crowd of JMU hunters last night, I think we must realize how badass JMU is. We group up with baseball bats to find this clown, real or not, to protect our turf. Pretty sick. So in honor of this courageous act, here are a few other things you can do to continue to fight this clown dilemma.

Don’t dress up like one.

That’s absolutely stupid.

Buddy system.

Throwback to elementary school, but if you for some reason decide to do some late night campus wandering, bring anyone along for the ride. Because odds are you wouldn’t be able to survive on your own.

So kids, the moral of the story here is that no one likes clowns. However, this situation is serious so learn some common sense and understand danger is out there. Don’t let that scare you. Just use my tips above and your life should be clown free. Stay safe. 911 will always be there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
