In my family, relationships with each other are important. Growing up, I was always taught to have an open and honest relationship with my parents, and as a result, I grew up having an extremely special and close relationship with my mom and dad. Now that I am an adult (or at least trying to be), this relationship has been the foundation for my success and has taught me a lot about who I am and who I want to be.
When you're close to your parents, you always have someone that has your back. Someone who will be your biggest cheerleader, and who will defend you with everything they have. You have someone who would go to battle for you any day, and who will go to the ends of the Earth for you.
When you're close to your parents, you always have someone to talk to. Your parents are nothing more than a text away, whether you need to cry, rant, or relive the best parts of your day. They are there with winning advice, and always celebrate your achievements (even if it's something as simple as learning how to cook ground beef, or going to sleep at a decent hour).
When you're close to your parents, they know what is going on in your life. From what you learned in class, to what you did during the weekend. They know what's going on in your friend's lives, and don't hesitate to bring it up when they see them. They even keep up with the latest drama and gossip that you may hear.
When you're close to your parents, the inside jokes you share are endless. You can't go anywhere without seeing or hearing something that reminds you of them, and they can't seem to go anywhere without being reminded of you.
When you're close to your parents, you are constantly surrounded by love. Your family is closer, and the memories you make become more meaningful because they are shared with the people whom you love the most. You do more together, experience more together, and grow more together.
My family truly means the world to me, and I know that the relationship I have created with my parents is a bond unlike any other. Because of them, I know my dreams have no limits, and I will always have someone in my corner, even when I am wrong. Being so close to my parents has truly been one of the most beneficial and special things.
Since my family is close to 150 miles away, I don't get to see them as often as I would like to. However, because my parents and I are so close, they make the miles seem like inches, and it makes the distance between us so much easier to cope with. Even though I don't get to see them every day, I know they are always there for me. I love you, Mom and Dad!
