People love to say that certain statements are too cliché and silly to be valued, but they're overused for a reason: they make sense. I mean, sure, hearing the same thing over and over again can make it feel less valuable, but most clichés are very good advice.
1. "You are more than your GPA."
While this is wildly overstated, it couldn't be more true. If there is one thing that doesn't define you as a person, it's your grades. Your GPA is not a characteristic, a trait, or a quality. Never let low test scores or bad grades in classes make you feel bad about yourself. In the end, your grades do not determine who you are as a person.
2."You do not need someone else to make you happy."
This is such an important piece of advice and it really is true. Sure, it's nice to have people in your life that lift you up and make things better, but you don't NEED anyone to make you happy; you can make yourself happy. Find things that make you happy and do them for yourself.
3. "A smile goes a long way."
This is one of my favorites, and again is great advice. It takes very little to make people happy sometimes. And a lot of the time, all it takes is a smile. Happiness is contagious, and simply smiling at someone can cause their mood to improve and be inspired to spread the love. This is similar to paying it forward, but sometimes all it takes is a smile.
4. "Curiosity killed the cat."
Sometimes it's hard not to be curious and want to inquire more information on something or someone. However, curiosity can be dangerous because it can often lead to learning or seeing something upsetting. Sometimes it's better to not know then to have learned something you didn't want to know.
5. "Laughter is the best medicine."
Sometimes, whether your just feeling down, have a cold, or something more serious, a little laughter goes a long way. Cheering someone up can help them so much.
6. "The grass is always greener on the other side."
This cliché is so important and very true. People always want what they can't have. If you spend as much time being thankful for what you do have as you do wanting what you don't have, you would be so much happier. Always be thankful for what you have and you won't even notice the grass on the other side.
7. "Actions speak louder than words."
This one is also so important to understand, and it can go in many ways. Telling someone you love them is great, but showing it is so much better. Telling someone you appreciate them is great, but showing them how much is better. Speaking your mind is important, but taking action is so much more important.
