Forbes just recently rated Cleveland "America's Hottest City Right Now." Out of all cities that make up this bustling U.S. of A, Cleveland tops the charts.
As I sit here writing this, with game three of the World Series on the television in the background and my CLE tribe sitting in one of those dugouts, I can't help but agree.
As Clevelanders, we've been through a lot alongside our city. A long history of sports failures, environmental mishaps, job losses, and mistake after mistake. We were perceived as the city with an unbreakable curse. We're now known for affordable living, some of the best hospitals in the nation, the greatest sports teams in America, and so much more.
We've been called the underdogs, but maybe we're just redefining what it means to be the longshots. Maybe we're not dark horses at all, but simply patient believers who dare to do and to believe in a place that had, for so long, seemed utterly hopeless. This year has been so full of triumphs, between our Cavaliers winning the championships to our Indians getting to the World Series to the RNC coming to our home...we have so much to be proud of. And it's no wonder the "mistake-on-the-lake" reputation seems to have been completely turned around.
For all of you who haven't gotten to experience this place, just know thatCleveland Rocks. It's no longer just a 1979 hit song by Ian Hunter...it's a reality, and one that we've waited a long time to live out. From our sports teams to the sand and shorelines of Lake Erie, the beloved downtown district and the West Side Market, quaint suburbs to our kindhearted and hardworking families, great food and art, roller coaster rides and overall city pride, you'd better believe we have it all.
I'll admit it: Cleveland was one of the last places that would've ever made my mental hit-list of places to stay, to return to, or to call home in the future. But the more I see of this world, the more I learn about what it's like to live in a place that isn't Cleveland, the more I realize how real, true, honest, and beautiful it is to live in a place like the CLE. I am proud of how far it's come, and I am optimistic that it's only going to get better from here.
Cleveland is a magical place. It is full of hope, optimism, happiness, and nitty-gritty, hardworking, kindhearted people. We are so much more than our sports teams, state-of-the-art hospitals, and sitcoms like Hot in Cleveland; we are its history, its present state, and its future. We own up to each moment of its time--it's made us who we are, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
If you're someone like me who has to see something like this to believe it, come see for yourself...we love every square inch of this quirky, beautiful, bustling place that we are so proud to call home.
