Tips On Keeping Your Dorm Clean And Organized

Dorm rooms. They're small and very easy to mess up! With all of the homework, studying, and club organizations, the last thing on your mind is cleaning. By the time you realize that the room is a mess. it is a ton of work to fix everything. Well I have a few tips that will prevent the huge mess from occurring, with simple everyday tasks that are not too time consuming.

1. Make your bed

You may be thinking that this does not make much of a difference, but it does. When you are in a rush in the morning to go to class because you woke up late, take the extra minute to fix your bed. Then when you come back to your room you will feel better about how your room looks. It does not seem like it will make a difference, but trust me, you will see it if you try.

2. Throw food away

Get rid of that smell! Let's say it's Wednesday night and you ordered a pizza on Sunday. If you don't plan on eating it, throw it away. When I say throw it away I don't mean in your little trashcan, I mean throw it away in the dumpster/trash chute. If you leave that pizza in the trash it's like you did not do anything because the smell is still lingering in the room. If you throw it away when you are done it will save you time from the big trashcan cleanup. Keep the trashcan to things like paper, tape, and other kinds of items that will not decay in your trashcan.

3. Open the window

Going off of number two, please open the window. Even though you throw away the food, the smell can still be sitting in the room. Also in small spaces it's healthy to let some fresh air inside especially since the space is quite congested at times. Opening a window for two to five minutes can also keep you from getting sick because of all the germs trapped in the room.

4. Sweep Weekly

Take the time to dust your rug and sweep the room every week! Doing this is a lot easier than letting the mess pile up then cleaning it afterwards. When you sweep every week you will be taking small amounts of dirt, which will probably take about five minutes out of your day.

5. Have a space for everything

It's easy to just throw all your items in a drawer move on with your day but try not to do that. Keeping everything in a designated spot can help prevent clutter, and keep you from constant searching. Also there are unique ways to organize different items such as food, books, and school supplies. Here are a few:

Toilet paper rolls for holding pens and paper clips

Hanging and organizing snacks behind the door

Labeling different plugs to prevent stress

These are a few of many different tricks to keeping your room organized to prevent "the big clean" every two weeks or every month. Incorporate some or all of these tips and you will see that keeping your place tidy it not so hard with some minor adjustments.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
