The new year is in full effect and with it come a number of reasons to do up your face and head out for a good time. Whether you are a glitter eye shadow, statement lip color woman, or a natural beat, the care for our skin underneath should be just as important as the choice of the evening. Underneath the well-constructed contour, highlight, or “baking” is a naturally beautiful being known as your skin. Many women struggle to make the transition from summer care to winter when it comes to skin regimen but these basic and affordable beauty essentials and tips could help make sure your canvas remains smooth, hydrated, and beautiful. During the colder months it can be hard to retain moisture in our skin but these products give a little extra help to avoid dry and rough facial skin. All of these products can be found at your local drugstore or Walmart.

1. Noxzema: The Original Deep Cleansing Cream

Noxzema is a deep cleansing cream that is great for getting a full cleaning of your pores. Unlike many deep cleaners, Noxzema is inexpensive and doesn’t dry out your skin leaving those rough patches to deal with after a long night out. A great suggestion while using this cleaner is to apply this at least five minutes before taking a shower as a type of mask then rinse while in the shower. (Price: $5)

2. Ambi Black Soap

This black soap is great for morning face washes since it is a surface wash. Although it is a surface clean, this soap ensures a good moisturized cleanse. You should never use any soap that leaves your skin stripped and dry of its natural nutrients. Ambi’s black soap is infused with shea butter, aloe vera, and vitamin E. If you have dry skin or eczema, you can use this product as a body soap also! If you don’t prefer to use a brand of black soap, natural organic black soap is also a great option to choose. (Price: $4)

3. St. Ives Apricot Scrub

St. Ives has one of the best affordable exfoliating products on the shelves. There are a lot of mixed reviews of this product on various beauty blogs, but many are in favor of the results of using an apricot scrub. It is wise to avoid using this product if you have an allergy to the dried fruit that is in the all-natural ingredient exfoliator because it may cause a skin reaction. This scrub makes sure that all of the dead skin on your face is removed so that radiant smooth skin is revealed. St. Ives scrub is available in fresh skin and there’s also another formula for blemish control. When used at least 4 times during the week great results can be seen. Be sure to never skip the exfoliating step in skin care because this allows for the moisturizer you use to actually penetrate your pores for full moisture. (Price: $3-$5)

4. Neutrogena Hydro-boost Gel Cream

This lightweight cream provides a great hydration for skin. When paired with your facial wash before bed for deep moisture, this product has great results. Unlike many night creams, Neutrogena did a great job at producing one that is not oily or greasy, heavy, and that can last for up to 48 hours. As an addition, hyaluronic acid is included in this product to cause an increased hydration for your skin. (Price: $20)

Using these suggested products can help make your winter skin care regimen a breeze and can also transition into your spring and summer skin care routine. Along with the products, it is also a good idea to try using paper towels to dry your face instead of the same face cloth every night. The bacteria from your towel after daily use can cause your skin to not be as clean as it could be if using paper towels instead. Use these suggestions to find a routine that best fits you and enjoy your glowing and clean skin!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
