Classic Songs From The 1980s
1980's Music

Many great things came out of the eighties; leggings, big hair, scrunchies, etc. But one of the most notable pieces from the decade that has significantly impacted the world we live in today is the music. Here are a few tunes that have survived throughout the past years.

26. "Jump" by Van Halen

The anthem for those who love a good workout.

25. "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears For Fears

Although it is a slow-paced song, this ballad was a hit, being blasted from cars all across the world.

24. "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles

Fun fact: This was the very first song to play when MTV premiered on day time television.

23. "Relax" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood

If you haven't bumped this song while driving down Hollywood Blvd., then you haven't lived to your full potential quite yet.

22. "Every Breath You Take" by The Police

If you're ever looking for a song to set the mood, this tune will definitely do the trick.

21. "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club

This is the song that everyone is too afraid to admit they sing along to.

20. "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins

The anthem for "Miami Vice." (Who knew watching two people driving in a car for five minutes could be so entertaining when this song is blasting in the background.)

19. "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Yes, Tom Petty originally sang this. (Don't get me started on that John Mayer fella).

18. "The Power Of Love" by Huey Lewis and The News

Also known as that bop from the "Back To Future" movies.

17. "Like A Prayer" by Madonna

Despite causing controversy due to her sacrilegious music video, Madonna takes pop to a whole new level with this song.

16. "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith

This is that song that everyone knows, yet they are never able to identify who the artist is.

15. "Heat Of The Moment" by Asia

The tune that all middle-aged fathers blast from their pick-up trucks.

14. "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" by Joan Jett And The Blackhearts

Joan Jett was a genius for creating this song, proving that women are also capable of being in the rock industry.

13. "(I Just) Died In Your Arms" by Cutting Crew

Cutting Crew knew what they were doing when they decided to create a soft ballad that brought everyone to tears.

12. "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners

The most iconic violin-intro that will ever happen in our generation. This song has always been a popular pick for school dances and weddings.

11. "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie's soothing voice is what truly made this song successful.

10. "Forever Young" by Alphaville

Even though the lyrics are a bit dismal and glum, the chorus is catchy, making it an anthem that everyone knows.

9. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen

The most underrated tune that Queen had ever produced. (A great alternative if you're don't feel like sitting through "Bohemian Rhapsody").

8. "The Boys Of Summer" by Don Henley

This song has been covered over and over again by countless bands, but no one will ever be able to live up to Don Henley and his take on this flawless masterpiece of a song.

7. "The Promise" by When In Rome

This is the song you always hear at the end of movies when the credits start rolling.

6. "Holiday" by Madonna

Madonna has so many great songs, it was impossible to just only have one of her tunes in this list.

5. "Kids In America" by Kim Wilde

Even British kids have a good old time with this bop.

4. "Hold On Loosely" by 38 Special

Another song you can bump to with Dad in the car.

4. "Dancing With Myself" by Billy Idol

Billy Idol took risks with this song and as an artist, which makes me really appreciate him as an individual and as a musician.

3. "The Warrior" by Scandal

If you're ever looking for a song to run to, this tune will definitely do the job.

2. "Super Freak" by Rick James

Despite some of the provocative innuendos hidden in this song, Rick James was a genius for going out of the box and creating his own genre of "disco rap."

1. "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel

Billy Joel not only saved the eighties with this song, but also helped everyone pass their middle school history classes.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
