We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it's also the most delicious. I am the furthest thing from a morning person, but that doesn't stop me from having breakfast when I wake up at noon. The only bad thing about breakfast is that there are so many enticing options that it's almost impossible to decide what to have. Not all breakfast foods are created equal though, so choose wisely.
1. Waffles.
Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson approved. Waffles are the best because they're designed with little divots for maximum syrup retention. Plus, when you're not in the mood for waffles, which if we're being honest is hardly ever, you can use the waffle iron to make amazing desserts.
2. Pancakes.
As someone who is currently eating chocolate chip pancakes at 1 a.m., I can attest to the fact that pancakes are great at any time of day. If you're feeling fancy you can also make pancakes's cousin food: crepes.
3. French toast.
French toast is incredibly easy to make because unlike waffles and pancakes you don't need mix to make it. You just need eggs, milk, bread, butter, and cinnamon. To add to the deliciousness factor you can use cinnamon swirl or Challah bread.
4. Eggs.
Sunny side up, scrambled, over easy, poached. You can use eggs to make at a minimum four different breakfasts. Not to mention if you add cheese, meat, veggies, and some seasoning you can make an omelette or frittata.
5. Cold pizza
You won't find this option on any diner menu, but it is by far one of the most satisfying breakfast foods. Whether you're hungover or too lazy to make something, cold pizza is always there for you
6. Bagels.
We all know that upstate bagels can't even compare to the amazingness that is downstate bagels. These are lower on the list because you can't always find a good one. However, Wegmans is starting to make rainbow bagels, so at least they're trying.
7. Cereal.
Cereal is a very divisive breakfast food. Either you intensely love cereal or you can't stand it. If you love it, like me, then you're lucky because there are hundreds of kinds to choose from. You can eat it in the morning or an night, dry or with milk, in a bowl or out of the box.
8. Bacon.
I personally don't see the appeal of bacon, but from the ever growing number of bacon flavored products, I can tell it's a pretty popular breakfast food. However, it's not a complete breakfast, it's a side, so number eight it is.
While donuts are delicious, they have to be eaten when they're fresh. If they've been sitting out for 40 minutes, then they're stale and you're hangry. The good news is one donut isn't that filling, so you have an excuse to eat three.
10. Oatmeal.
One of the more boring breakfast foods. By itself, plain oatmeal isn't all that appealing, but once you start adding brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple syrup things start to get interesting.
In the end, any breakfast food trumps non-breakfast food. Just remember that the one sure fire way to ruin breakfast foods is to limit them to just breakfast.
