Why I'm Team Ciara

A look inside the R&B songstress's never-ending drama surrounding Future

Why I'm Team Ciara

About a week ago, I was scrolling down my Twitter timeline, and I came across someone tweeting about a certain well known rapper’s tweets about his certain well known baby mother regarding their son.

Sound familiar?

It should. Nayvadius Wilburn, better known as Future, took to Twitter Jan. 4 to vent some frustration about the custodial agreement between him and baby mama No. 4, better known as Ciara.

Although some believe he was just being a concerned father, I’m not so convinced.

Before I dive in, let’s rewind a bit.

Ciara and Future began dating in early 2013 and went on to do Ciara’s “Body Party” video together in April that same year. In October, they were engaged to be married, and Baby Future (yes, Future is the baby's given name) was born in May of 2014, but by December of 2014, the two split.

Future’s latest social media spiel isn’t the first time he’s expressed his feelings about Ciara—in fact, it’s far from. JuFuture has gone on to say many things about his former lover, ranging from slightly distasteful jokes to underhanded jabs.

Without having to hear a word from Ciara herself, I believe her.

Because I was once Baby Future.

My mother and father split when I was about 7-years-old. I began spending every other weekend with him, and, especially toward the beginning, my father would take any opportunity to bash my mother and blame her for the eventual downfall of their relationship. In fact, it’s scarily reminiscent of what Future has done to Ciara.

Future has taken almost every opportunity to “bring up” Ciara’s name in his press interviews. Granted, he was prompted questions regarding their situation, but if he truly “didn’t care” about Ciara anymore, then why couldn’t he just deflect these types of questions like all celebrities do?

Future was upset that Russell Wilson was around Baby Future, but wasn’t Ciara taking care of his other four kids early on in their relationship?

Hm.

It also seems quite convenient that every time he mentions some friction between him and Ciara, he has a soon-to-be-released project or song he's promoting. This time it's his "Purple Reign" mixtape, which was released this past Sunday.

Hm. Interesting.

My geometry teacher always said that “the guilty dog barks first.” And Future’s been bow-wow-wowing about Ciara for the longest.

And Ciara’s said little to nothing about him.

Hm. Very Interesting.

Of course, I don’t know all of the details surrounding Future and Ciara’s issues, none of us do. However, all the evidence seems to point to the current King of the South, and I have no problem ruling with a guilty verdict. Even at the risk of eating my words later.

And if I’m being completely honest, I just want Baby Future to have a father that’s present in his life, whether that be Future, Russell Wilson, or the Lord himself.

Ciara, I believe you. Stay strong, and be the best mother you can be.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
