There is one bond among humans that supersedes all others. It can weather storms, outlast mountains, and catch a whirlpool in its depth. It has existed since the dawn of human history itself. Since word was first written on paper. There is no other construct that has this bond's level of historical precedent, evidence, and sheer meaning.
Yes my friends and readers, I am speaking of the Bromance.
What will follow in the proceeding weeks is a historical account of all the instances of Bromance that one may find. As you will come to see, the Bromance has secured its place in history both fictional and nonfictional. These events have helped shaped the human race into what it is today. Depicted by both the arts and real life events, the Bromance is an important social construct that deserves acknowledgement.
Humor aside, the history of the Bromance has had a significant impact on the development of the male persona throughout the centuries. There can be no doubt that the Bromance is a real phenomenon which exemplifies the special bond between two men. History, literature, art, and music all contain examples of two men united in their mutual respect and love for each other as Bros.
The idea of the Bromance has even spawned the equally impactful concept of the Bro Code.
Whether you call it chivalry, honor, or the Bro Code, it is crucial to recognize that there exists a vague outline of a system of rules by which men, and especially Bromances, should abide by.
I use the word critical because in today's society, no one is quite sure what it means to "be a man." I see article after article about the death of chivalry, the patriarchy, and men today. Recent societal change has seen the radical upheaval of what it means to be a man. This is by no means a bad thing, don't get me wrong. I am not arguing that the patriarchy or the old fashioned idea of "being a man" should be perpetuated. It is my intention that the articles in the weeks to come investigate famous interactions between men and the ambiguous rules that govern our actions so that we may better understand our role in society today.
It is my hope that by the end of this series of articles, my readers have a better comprehension of what makes men tick, and how we have arrived at this point in our development. I have no clue what the next step for us is. All I can hope is that by fleshing out the Bro Code and looking at what makes a Bromance, we will better understand how to be a GOOD man in the 21st century.
Since the boring introduction is over, look out for next week's first chapter in the Chronicles of the Bro Code where the first ever Bromance will be discovered. Here's a hint: it is the first known piece of literature!
