The day after Halloween is a magical day for some people and a dreaded time for others. People start to listen to Christmas music as they begin decorating with the beloved reds, green, and snowmen. Which are you? Do you believe that people should wait until after Thanksgiving to have that festive Christmas cheer beating in their hearts? Or do you dive right in and start pulling out your boxes containing your talking Santa Clauses and more than likely broken ornaments. I must admit that I fall into the holiday-decorated category of number two.
I’ve noticed more and more that the day after Halloween people toss their pumpkins in the trash, and begin to prepare for the hot apple cider and brisk days ahead. Personally, I believe that embracing the joyful delight of Christmas can happen whenever one desires to slip into a pair of Rudolph printed socks, but even though our hearts wish for snow and for an idea of what will be in those little decorated boxes that appear under the tree Christmas morning, we cannot forget the food-filled day of Thanksgiving especially since it’s a day dedicated to giving thanks, eating more food than you can stomach, and spending time with your family.
I guess that even though I’m one of those people blasting holiday songs in November, I can still see how people on the other side of the fence see the situation. I’ve been told by a lot of people in my life that if I start enjoying Christmas too early that I might lose my passion for it or that it won’t have the same effect when it actually is time to put of the tree and string up the lights. Some people just want to enjoy the holidays one at a time. They believe that there is a time for Halloween, and a time for Thanksgiving, and finally Christmas, and although I can sympathize with them having to with us crazed Christmas fanatics, I just love mushing Thanksgiving and Christmas together because both are just wonderful, smile-filled times. So why not make it better?
I understand and accept that everyone has their own opinion on the right time to celebrate Christmas, but sometimes I wish that people would flash me nasty glares when I’m jamming to Christmas music in the car with my friends. Hey, it’s not our fault a radio station has already been created. Pick your side of the fence, but don’t let other people feel like they are less for choosing a different side than you. Let them dance to Jingle Bell Rock, or if they prefer to wait to celebrate Christmas the more power to them. Everyone deserves to be happy, and this holiday season, both Christmas and Thanksgiving, is supposed to be filled with excessive amounts of food, cookies, family reunions, and smiles. So be who you want. Do what you want. Wear a Christmas sweater or a one with a turkey on it. Just be happy and let others be happy too this holiday season.
