I visited the Lights at Lakemont Park last Saturday with my sister and two of my closest friends. It was only a short drive from our hometown of State College, Pennsylvania, so my friends and I believed it was worth a shot to see. After all, we seemed pretty bored of our hometown and needed a bit of a change during this time. While at first I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I had an amazing time viewing each individual holiday light creation displayed throughout the drive.
The light show begins around 6pm each day, but we arrived around 8:00pm, assuming the line would be pretty short for the attraction. However, we were quite mistaken; we waited for three hours just to drive through this light show. If I were to redo the experience, I would definitely arrive much earlier than we did. Some people were not even allowed entry because the line closes at 10:00pm each night!
Despite the long line to enter, my friends and I enjoyed the wait as much as we could. We tuned into the radio station to listen to some of their announcements before switching to our own Christmas music playlists to pass the time. Singing and dancing along made the time pass quote quickly, so be sure to attend with friends!
Upon entering the show, we could see an example fo each of the 12 days of Christmas, beginning with a partridge in a pear tree and ending with a drummer. The pears even alternated their position on the tree by changing the color of lights, so it was quite amazing to see all the moving pieces that came together to make the image so clear.
Throughout the light show itself, different signs advertised each company that contributed lights to the show. From bright signs with the words 'joy' and 'love' to big coffee cups, each light fixture represented something interesting about the holiday season around the world. Some of the lights displayed company names along with an accompanying figurine of Santa and his reindeer, and others showcased an entire safari of animals on the adventure towards Santa Claus at the end of the show. Each fixture was bright and vibrant, which made me genuinely happy to see.
Overall, this experience was quite magical and definitely worth the drive! My only complaint would be the long line, but since I was with friends, I was able to pass the time quite easily. Everyone should visit the Lights at Lakemont Park if they can this holiday season!
