This is an article dedicated to my Grandfather who died 3 years ago this Christmas. He died suddenly a week before Christmas, and I wrote him a special poem for him a year after his passing. I am writing this to share with you all the poem that I want to share with you, and the rest of the world. When I wrote this poem, I was thinking about how he was soon going to be spending Christmas in Heaven before the moment he passed away. So, I call it, Christmas in Heaven

Why did you have to go?

Why did you have to go?

Why, oh why did you have to go?

Leaving us to weep, and be in despair?

Christmas isn’t the same without you.

Papa, where did you go?

Why did it have to be so soon?

Papa, where are you now?

Papa, why did you have to leave so soon?

Why did it have to be on Christmas?

Why couldn’t it have been another day?

Papa, we miss you so.

Papa, I want you to know.

Christmas isn’t the same anymore.

No one wants Christmas like this.

Papa, celebrate with Jesus.

Papa, please send us blessings.

Papa, send Grandma Love.

For she is saddened of all.

Papa, why does it feel like it was yesterday?

Yesterday when you slipped away from us.

Slipped away during the holidays.

Papa, we didn’t want it to happen so quickly.

Not like this, Papa.

Papa, I miss you dearly.

Papa, I hope you can hear me.

Papa, the grandkids ask where you went for the holidays.

Papa, I tell them this.

Papa, I tell them you went to heaven.

Papa, I tell them you are spending Christmas in heaven.

Papa, I hope you enjoy Christmas.

Even though you aren’t here.

I wish you were.

I wish you were spending Christmas on earth.

Though you are spending it in a better place.

Papa, I hope you have fun.

Papa, I hope you have fun with those up in heaven that aren’t here with us.

Papa, I hope you have a joyous Christmas in Heaven.

Papa, I love you.

Papa, I wish you can hear me.

Papa, I wish you can see me again.

Papa, I wish I can touch you again.

Papa, I wish you can see Grandma again.

Papa, why did you have to leave earth last Christmas?

I miss you, Papa.

I hope you can hear us.

I hope you can see us on Christmas.

Papa, I know you will be there on Christmas with Jesus.

Papa, I know you won’t be there in body, but will be there in spirit.

Papa, I love you, and miss you.

Merry Christmas,Papa.

I love you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
