If you're like me, Nov. 1 is the official start of the Christmas season. It's never too early to listen to Christmas music and everything is better when it's red, green and glitter. We're what people call Christmas fanatics.
Sadly, not everyone enjoys the Christmas spirit like we do. Some people out there don't believe in decorating with lights and garland until Black Friday, let alone even listen to "All I Want For Christmas is You" before December. They are also the people who hate fun and happiness.
As Christmas fanatics, there are a few facts of life that we know to be true.
It is absolutely never too early to decorate for Christmas.
Halloween and Thanksgiving are simply speed bumps to the time when neighborhoods start glowing with Christmas lights and inflatable Santa Clauses. My roommate and I highly considered decorating our house mid-October, but decided to wait until Nov. 1, instead.
Your heart soars when the mall starts putting up Christmas decorations.
There is nothing better than walking into Belk and seeing a ton of ornaments, wreaths and garland hanging from the ceiling. And when the line starts forming to get a picture with Santa, you know it's officially the season. Unless you're the Grinch, hearing "Last Christmas" while you're searching for the perfect gift is a beautiful thing.
There is no such thing as watching "Elf" too many times.
Or "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Or "Home Alone." Or "A Christmas Story."
The entire year is a build up to the best day of the year.
There's a reason that Christmas is one of the last days of the year, and it's because we need 11 months to prepare for the most wonderful time of the year.
There's literally not a better time of year than Christmas time.
Strangers are nicer to each other, thick sweaters mean you can eat as much as you want without it showing, and you get to see the family you don't usually see. Not to mention you can enjoy a Christmas movie all day, every day on ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas.
Even the oldest child can pretend Santa's still real.
I found out that Santa was actually my parents when I was in first grade, and Christmas definitely lost a little bit of its magic after that. But even now, as I approach my 21st Christmas, there's nothing wrong with pretending there's an old man who flies around the world in a sled giving everyone presents.
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."
Enough said.
