Saturday morning, to my great dismay, I open my phone to discover singer/songwriter Christina Grimmie was pronounced dead. After her final show on June 10,2016 in Orlando, FL, Grimmie was greeting fans with her radiant smile and personality when she was approached by a man who would become her killer. The man, whose name has yet to be released, shot the 22-year old artist in open fire. Grimmie was rushed to the hospital with critical wounds and sadly passed a few hours later on June 11.
The man fatally shot himself but not before being tackled by Grimmie's brother. Grimmie's brother is being hailed a hero for stopping the senseless act of violence before anyone else got hurt. The man is being described as a young, white 21-year old male who was came well prepared to commit this heinous act carrying 2 additional loaded magazines as well as a hunting knife. The police are combing through his phone and computer for possible motive.
Christina Grimmie, best known for her time on The Voice, was a blossoming vocalist who not only had a talent for singing but encouragement and positivity as well. She was someone who radiated love and joy to everyone she met. She personally identified as a Christian and this was so evident in her daily dialogue and walk.
Grimmie began playing piano at the age of six and since has been striving for nothing less than greatness. As a YouTube sensation, she was adored and loved by her millions of viewers for her covers of well know songs of popular artists.
Her biggest break came when she joined The Voice. In her blind audition, she sang Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" and had all four coaches turn their chairs around indicating their awe and interest in this young voice. Grimmie chose Adam Levine as her coach, and the duo has since been close.
While she did finish 3rd in the competition, Adam Levine and Lil Wayne expressed interest in signing her to their record labels, 222 Record and Young Money Entertainment, respectively.
Levine, as well as other celebrities including Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera, have expressed deep remorse and sentiment at the loss of their dear friend. Levine says he is "sad, shocked, and confused," and that this entire situation "just isn't fair."
The world will forever be a little less light without her presence and heart in it. She was nothing short of THE voice taken too soon. #RIPChristina, you will be missed.
