Finding the university that helps you find Him

To all my Christian high school seniors,

I was in your shoes last year. I, too, embarked on the crazy little journey to find the perfect college. It didn't take too long for me because my heart was close to set on my current university, but for those of you who are struggling to make this decision (it's definitely not an easy one), I hope to ease your mind a bit and give you some pointers on selecting the right college for you!

As a Christian, I knew that whatever college I called home should be a religious university. This does not have to be the case for you, but it definitely has its benefits! It is super heartening to be surrounded with people who share your beliefs. It allows for a bonding experience like no other and provides a deeper understanding of God. One of my favorite things about my school is how God is incorporated in all of my classes. We learn lessons that can allow us to glorify Him while also getting a high-quality education. It's a win-win!

Schools that are more secular do not always allow the "freedoms" that they claim to offer. Classes are not Biblically aligned, and mentions of God are generally frowned upon. I am not saying that these schools are bad (they offer a variety of people, clubs, and activities), but for a struggling Christian or a new Christian, these schools can mislead them because they may not be strong in the faith. A Christian school can grow faith and encourage faith, and for many Christians, that is one of the most important aspects of their religion.

I'm not advertising for my specific university (though it is a wonderful school!), nor am I saying that all Christians should attend Christian universities, but in my experience during my first year here, I have felt the presence of God like I never have before! From a Biblical standpoint, it is very important to surround yourself with fellow Christians so you can help grow each other in Christ. Christian universities offer this and much more! So for all you seniors who may be struggling to find a college home, try a Christian college, and watch God go to work in your life!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
