Coming to college, I thought that my future was set. I never thought that I would change my major, nonetheless have 3 different majors. I especially didn’t think that I would be moving on opposite sides of the spectrum with my majors, from Earth Science Secondary Education to Elementary Education and finally to Criminal Justice. Coming from a small town where most people go to school for farming, teaching, or nursing, I was sure that teaching was my calling in life, but realized that I wanted to explore my options and found criminal justice and discovered that I had fallen in love with it. After taking the introduction, I realized just how much more I could learn about the possibilities with this major and how I would still be able to make a positive impact on the world.

I know with Criminal Justice that there is a world of possibilities out there for me career wise. This includes law school, law enforcement, forensics, crime analysis, and many, many more amazing options and opportunities. At this point though, I am wanting to declare a double major in either Psychology or Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies to go with my degree in Criminal Justice. Meaning that I have decided to either choose a career in law enforcement or law school to work as a victim’s advocate or a prosecutor. I know, I know, I don’t want to be the “bad guy” in the courtroom by putting away those who may be innocent, but it will also be my job to put away those who are guilty, with distinct and proven evidence, such as murderers, rapists and criminals of any type. Some people may think that I would not be “cut out” for this line of work, whether that is taking the bad guys off the street as a law enforcement official, or assuring that they stay off the street by going to law school, but trust me, I have never been so sure of a decision in my life.

When I wanted to be a teacher, I felt as if it was what I was supposed to do, not what I was meant to do. I chose this major because I want to make this world a safer place for future generations, I want to help assure that what is right and pure in the world stays that way and is not taken over by the negativity that has seemingly begun to increase throughout this country and many others. When people say, you find yourself in college, they are correct. You discover what opportunities there are that aren’t heavily influenced by where you came from and who you knew; you discover exactly what you want to do with your life and it is truly amazing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
