Why don’t we, and when I mean we I mean Americans, people living in this nation, accept one another?
Why don’t we love one another for our differences rather than what we have in common?
Why can’t we love each other for our opinions?
Why do Americans expect every citizen to be the same, act the same, have the same morals, values, beliefs, culture, and religion when in reality, it will never happen. This country is built on diversity and it’s going to remain that way for many, many years to come. Frankly, our country would be so boring and discolored if we were all similar.
Learning about one’s culture is the first step in accepting people for who they are. If only the people in our society knew about the reasoning for Muslim women wearing hijabs or why atheists don’t believe there is a God(s), our nation would be more accepting as a whole.
Respecting is also a major part in understanding the diversity in America. If we all just friggin respected each other for who we are, our country wouldn’t be in such a mess.
Before I continue, I want to make it very clear: this article is not a black lives matter, feminist, gay rights writeup. This is a piece about choosing love, choosing acceptance, choosing respect, and choosing equality. It is about accepting people for who they are an individual, as a citizen in the world.
I feel that there’s a gap in our country right now. People are either for or against Trump, citizens are either pro-life or pro-choice, or individuals favor Obamacare or oppose the entire federal statute. Will our nation ever agree on anything again? Will there always be a divide somewhere in society?
I know that politics is and always will be a touchy subject in the USofA, but can’t we agree to strive for a better, accepting nation? If someone's beliefs aren't physically and mentally hurting someone, it shouldn't matter that a gay couple adopted two daughters or that a black activist writes about his/her beliefs on social media platforms. Instead of judging and stereotyping the people in America, we should focus on what's truly important: equality, unity, and happiness. If we all just took the time to learn about one another’s differences, we could all become a part of closing the gap and creating a solid, unified nation.
Moral of this write up: let women have choices for their bodies, whether that’s getting an abortion or going to Planned Parenthood for birth control, let the feminists march, let the atheists believe in whatever they choose to believe in, let the Trump supporters proudly support Trump, and lastly, let the hippies and really whoever, smoke weed.
If you are offended by someone's lifestyle, religion, culture, sexuality, heritage, ethnicity, class, gender, or race, they are not the problem. Youare.
I choose love. I choose acceptance. I choose respect. I choose equality. I choose unity.
