10 Reasons Why I Chose Delta Zeta

Two words, one choice, no regrets

10 Reasons Why I Chose Delta Zeta

Many of my loyal Facebook friends and Twitter followers already know that I am an initiated member of the Delta Zeta chapter at Louisiana State University. LSU currently has 13 different sororities with another one quickly on the way. With all of these great chapters to choose from, how exactly do you choose the house that's the right fit for you?

1. Delta Zeta has an amazing philanthropy

The national philanthropy for Delta Zeta is speech and hearing, and to be more specific, DZ supports and provides charity work for the Painted Turtle Camp and the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Delta Zeta also has a couple other local charities that we work with; St. Lillian's academy, the Emerge Center for Special Needs Children and The Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area. Now, I don't know about you, but I think five organizations is much better than just one.

2. The House is unbelievable

The moment I walked into the house for the first time, I felt at home and at ease. The warm colors and bright rooms make the house feel cozy and comfortable. The living room, chapter room and kitchen are all beautifully decorated and they begin to feel like home.

3. The sweet, sweet girls

Upon becoming a member of Delta Zeta, I gained over 300 sisters and friends. Everyone always has a big smile on their face and a bright spirit in their heart.

4. Lunch at the House

Delta Zeta is known for their amazing cook staff (y'all rock), but they also have free lunch every week day at the house. It's such a blessing to spend time with my closest gal pals and to eat some yummy lunches in the beautiful kitchen.

5. Turtles, duh

One of DZ's symbols is the turtle, and who couldn't resist a cute creature like that? DZ's other symbols include the lamp and the Killarney Rose.

6. The hard working executive board

The few select girls who are a part of the executive board are always so prepared, sweet and organized. You can always find someone eating lunch at the house, studying in the library or just hanging around the living room. They're always there when you need them or when you need a shoulder to cry on.

7. The sisterhood is like no other

From the first moment in the DZ house until now, I have seen some amazing friendships and some powerful bonds. Our sisterhood is strong, and we can depend on each other for anything, no matter how large or small. I not only have sisters in the Sigma chapter here at LSU, but I also have sisters across the country.

8. Bid Day festivities

As a transfer student, I chose to rush in the spring instead of the fall. My Bid Day was a bit smaller because we only had a few girls who rushed, but the members of the chapter still went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We all received hugs and smiles as we walked through the doors on bid day.

9. Community involvement to the max

Before I chose which house I would fit best in, I was shown the different ways that DZ becomes involved with the community. They have numerous events throughout the year like "Mocktails," Turtle Tourney and the Miss LSU Pageant to help raise money for their different philanthropies or raise awareness for different issues in the community.

10. The creed

"To those whom my life may touch in slight measure, may I give graciously of what is mine.". The creed is not just an assembly of words, its a way of life and a motto to live by. In so many aspects, this creed is an example of which to live by not only in college, but forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
