What The Cold Weather Means To Me
Good Day

Here we are, finally starting the month of November. The days are becoming cool, animals are looking for places to escape the chilly weather, and exercise buffs are planning on packing themselves with Thanksgiving weight. This is a time that brings many good things, regardless of whom we are and where we live. I just thought it would be interesting to list a few of the reasons as to why we should appreciate this time.

Daylight Savings Time This period is a college student’s best friend. Daylight Savings Time is the period when we lose an hour of sunlight and gain an hour of sleep. Granted, I’m the type of guy who likes to have as much time in the sun as I can, but when all of those college papers start to stack up and you’re running short on coffee, that extra hour starts to look pretty good. In any case, no matter what reason you are experiencing “the struggle”, an extra hour is never a bad thing.

Hunting For all of you hunters out there (yessir!) it’s time to start strapping up. The hunting season is in session, and with Thanksgiving coming around the corner, it could not have come at a better time. After all, why go to the store to buy your Thanksgiving meal when you could simply get your own on a hunt? Not saying that there’s anything wrong with buying an ice-covered slab of meat that has been frozen for God knows how long. You know, some people like that, and that’s totally fine. Speaking of which…

Thanksgiving Um, duh. I’m not sure how much more needs to said about this, but in a few weeks, we will be sitting around a table with the grown folk (remember that Thanksgiving when you were finally allowed to sit at the adult table?) and chatting it up as we throw down on the turkey, stuffing, and who knows what else that will be sitting on the table. Needless to say, it couldn't come any sooner.

A Nice Crackling Fire Cold days bring about one of the best things to do indoors: sitting around the fireplace. No amount of central heating could compare to the warmth that comes from a crackling fire. That brings about another fun activity (at least to me) that I like to do: cutting firewood. I’m looking forward to those days when I walk out of my house during the foggy mornings, my breath hanging in the air each time I exhale, and trekking into the woods to find a nice sized hickory or other hardwood tree to chop down (Yes, I said chop, as in with an ax. I like doing things old fashioned) and bring back to the house to put into the fireplace. It’s a rewarding feeling which chases away the indoor cold and brings the family together.

Of course, there are other things that we could place here to describe this incoming season, but I felt that these stuck out the most to many of us. What are some things that the cool weather brings to mind for you? Let me know what you think!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
