As we grow up, are exposed to different sensory stimulating things; the main one being television. At such a young age, we start watching and creating a bond with the collection of movement and colors on a screen. It has become so common in today’s world, that no matter how old you are, or what generation you are a part of, almost all of us can recall at least one cartoon or television show we used to adore when we were younger. Often times, we start out with cartoon geared towards infants and toddlers that are created in order to teach basic educational principles, as well to display basic human responsibilities such as what is considered right and wrong.
Stepping away from these programs, we then transition to more complex cartoons and television with still relatively easy to understand basics, however have a deeper purpose or lesson to teach. From there, we then are allowed to branch off to different television programs that appeal to our interests. It is interesting that, even with such relatively new technology, the general public has already created almost an itinerary as to what is to be watched when, simply gearing things to select age groups.
It is not expected for a teenager to be watching daily soap operas in order to find out the outcome of the affair the main character had with a seemingly not important character, or rather an older individual watching a child’s show that teaches them the different colors that they will encounter on a daily basis. Interestingly enough though, seemingly just like everything else, not everyone conforms to what the television programmers tell us to watch, or what is "appropriate" for our age group.
Personally, I refer to myself as a five-year-old at heart. Why is this? Because I willingly sit and thoroughly enjoy lower level, or seemingly elementary television shows and movies, because just like everything else, these still have a deeper meaning than just what appears on the surface. For instance, the Walt Disney Corporation is known for their family friendly atmosphere and ideas, however when you take the final products that are then shown on television and cinema screens all around the world, they present ideas that would be thought to be implemented in another faction or platform that may catch an older generation’s attention.
This manifests an interesting question as to why family friendly companies implement these lessons and concerns into their productions. I would argue that in recent years, seemingly more people are able to establish what our society’s flaws are and how we can approach fixing them. With these ideas in mind, it only makes sense to turn to the younger, upcoming generation, for they are viewed to be the future of society. As well, with recent events fresh in our minds, now more than ever is the time to stop referring and reversing history, and keep moving forward and better the flaws we all feed into.
