The transition from high school to college can come as quite the shock to many students. There's nothing like the feeling of standing in the front row at a football game, sitting on the Homecoming court, playing the sport you love, or living with family members who care. Less than three months after high school graduation, we are thrown into a foreign world not knowing what to expect.Whether you realize it or not, here are somethings to cherish in high school before it's too late.
1. Home-cooked meals.
There’s no better feeling than coming home from school or practice to have a hot, nutritious meal waiting. No self-preparation, no dining halls, only momma’s home cooking.
2. High school dances.
Hair, makeup, flowers, dresses, ties, tuxedos, and all the special treatment which high school dances come along with make high school girls feel like princesses and high school guys feel…well, something like that.
3. Having a pet to come home to.
Having a happy face to greet you each day when you walk in the door is one major perk of coming home after high school. Almost every college dorm has a “no pet policy” which makes someone who used to play with their animals every day in for a big shock once he or she gets to college.
4. Showering without shower shoes.
Sharing a bathroom with 50 girls or guys and 50 pairs of feet can become pretty unsanitary. When you're the only one showering at home, shower shoes are not necessary but having to wear shower shoes become a must in a college dorm.
5. Seeing children and babies around town.
In college, the only people around campus happen to be students, professors, and coaches ages 18 and older. Rarely do students see little faces like the real world, and when they do see them, they're sure to bring a smile to the faces of college students.
6. Having your own space, room, bed.
Although many people have siblings running around, not many share a room with their siblings anymore. Roommates can make strangers best friends, worst enemies, or mere acquaintances all depending on the personalities, effort, and communication styles of each.
7. Friday Night Lights.
Friday…the day all high schoolers wait for. The packed student section for football, basketball, and baseball games are some of the most fun nights throughout those four high school years.
8. Someone else doing your laundry.
Climbing up and down three flights of stairs hauling an overstuffed hamper is one of the most unpleasant times of a college students' week. Never overestimate having a mother who will gladly do this chore.
9. Playing sports with the kids you grew up with.
Being able to run on a field or court with your closest childhood friends is a feeling unlike any other. These are the people who so many childhood and high school memories were shared with. In college, every athlete wishes for just one more high school game.
10. Seeing the people you love, not only hearing their voices.
Waking up each morning and getting a hug from Mom or Dad is something that becomes nonexistent in college. The appreciation for their parents most college students gain makes me realize some of the reasons why college students actually attend college. Clearly the major reason is education but also the realization of how lucky kids are to have parents who will always be there without physically being there.
