Cheers To the Holidays

It's not all bad, is it?

So with everything in the news, I’m sure you’ve heard some devastating news and superficial things that make you upset with the society we live in. Even bringing old memories back that make you want to forget everything and start over. Sometimes, even for a split second, you start losing hope for humanity.

But when we focus on the bad, we start forgetting about the good. It’s a reflex we can’t help, psychologically, bad things are much more memorable than the things that go well. So much so, that we would rather get rid of all our memories together, including our good ones just to rid of the bad.

Although, we also forget that good happens all around us. All the time. When someone dies, people get together to support one another. With police brutality, there are people who call those out those that aren’t doing what is right. And with terrorist's attack, we show our love and support no matter how large or small those groups are.

Within that, the sole fact that you are reading this article right now means you found a reason to keep going in life. Something is worth living for; the world isn’t as bad as you feel in the moment. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, trauma or just what you consider an average life, you’ve come this far. From those moments of pure pain and hurt, you survived. You’ve fought your way through the worst demons you can go through and you’re still here. And if you’re going through that now, you’re not alone.

Everyone has troubles. We ignore the fact because we focus on ourselves. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s a human thing.

So this holiday, try to remember the little good things in life. Take those and replace the bad because who cares if bad things happen. We can move past it and keep going because in life, it’s what you need to do to survive. And bad things just happen, it’s we haven’t before and sometimes it’s not what we think or know we deserve. But those around you will always recognize how strong you are because you get through it. And you’re a lot stronger than you think. It’s also a better way to live with thinking about the good in the world rather than just bad.

Again, nothing bad should be ignored. We take that in as an inspiration to move past current struggles to a future we have yet to see. We’ve done it before and we can continue to do so.

Love and let love live in a world where we fight for the good in our life, rather than have the bad tear us down. Live for hope that we’re all able to do the better for others and ourselves. Don’t just survive but fight back, because it’s more imperative to do than to hide. And stay, because you are more important for the world. Not because the world needs you, but the people who matter do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
