To My BFF In Need Of A "Cheer Up" Letter

It's going to be okay.

Hey you,

I know it's been a while, or just two weeks ago, since we've last seen each other, but I miss you like crazy. Although we could only meet for a short period of time, I'm so glad I could finally see you again. College has been a struggle for both of us but we've managed to make it through. We're almost done with our first year in college. Can you believe that? Time flies by so fast. I can still remember the week after graduation where we all stood in front of the fountain at 'The Forum' and took our college photos there. That was a very memorable day. We laughed. We hugged. We cried. We said our goodbyes. Then we parted our separate ways to college. Half of you guys decided to go to the same college while the rest of us were spread out all across Georgia. But I'm not really here to talk about college. Let's go back to high school.

In the hallway of the science building, I had stopped to talk to a mutual friend of ours. She had introduced me to you and we had become friends instantly. We both couldn't drive so the only time we could ever hang out was during lunch and in-between classes. After school, we would text and call each other about things that we needed to get off of our chest. You'd tell me your problems and I'd tell you my problems. We'd vent and then we'd laugh. I think I talked so much about other people within an hour or two time frame. You just listened to me vent and you'd help me laugh it off and get over it within seconds. During school, we'd talk during lunch and fangirl over Harry Styles. Let's be honest, we still do.

I introduced you to the place where I worked and we would gossip about all the customers that were always snappy and got on our nerves. Children are amazing, but the children there... Yeah, not so much. Remember the time I told you about the kid that puked because he didn't want to get his hair cut? Mm. Still haunts me. Senior year, I had the privilege to being in the same math class with you. Seventh period in Coach Wilson's class. Ah, fun times. That class was the only time I ever laughed so much in school. (Just kidding. That's a lie. I laughed a lot throughout high school.)

Every day, I couldn't wait to go to Coach Wilson's class because I got to see you. Remember all those pictures we took in the hours before class was about to start? We took many shots until we could find the perfect one we could post on Instagram. Then when class ended, we'd walk together to the front of the 400 building and take pictures at the brick wall as well. We wouldn't care if people were looking at us weirdly as we took our pictures. We just continued on to do what we were doing. After school, we left and went to sit in the misery of our own homes doing math homework. You and I. You and I texted back and forth and back and forth until we could find a solution to these math problems. When we finally figured out how to solve them, I jumped with excitement while you were just finally glad we finished the assignments.

Summer before college was amazing. I finally got my driver's license (yeah, took me a while) and we started going everywhere. We'd go to "The Forum," the movies, your house, and the mall (even the one where I had to drive on the freaking highway). I'd visit you when you were working at Target. Sometimes I would even skip out on time with the family just so I could hang out with you. I'd drive you places and you would pay for gas, food, and Starbucks. Whenever we went to "The Forum," I would have to make sure you didn't spend a crazy amount of money because I know you're a spender. I had to keep a very close eye on you. I remember you calling me over to look at a necklace or something and giving me that look that no one could refuse... Except for your mother, of course.

Now flash forward to today. I know college has been both good and bad for you. You've felt like you had no one to turn to. You were feeling betrayed by people you thought you could trust. Whenever you're feeling lonely or down, take a look at that picture above. We're laughing and having a good time. Remember that time and know that we only have a couple of weeks before we're off for the summer. Just because we don't live five minutes away from each other anymore, doesn't mean I'm not there for you. I will always be there for you in your time of need, just like you were there for me. Like I said on the phone yesterday, I'm only one call away. I love you lots.

With Love,

Your best friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
