Changing The World, One Love Letter At A Time

"The world doesn't need another website. It doesn't need another app or a network. What it needs is really basic. Simple. Bare-boned & often forgotten in the race to get followers, likes & status. LOVE. Pure, old-fashioned, never-goes-out-of-style love. Ridiculous, oozing, cannot-pack-this-thang-into-140-characters kind of love. Fearless, bold, unstoppable love. And that's where we come in..." -moreloveletters.com

This is the opening statement for an amazing organization that wants to change the world, one love letter at a time. That's right, they plan on making the world a better place with love letters, and it's honestly the most amazing idea I've ever heard.

More Love Letters is a global organization that allows people to nominate someone in their lives who's going through a hardship and could use some extra love, encouragement and support. That's where the letters come in; anyone, including me, can sign up for their email newsletter where you receive a list of the nominated people (usually about 3 or 4) with their story and address. You're then given a date to have your letter full of love mailed by so that the recipient gets this giant bundle of mail from people all over the world showering them with love and support.

Isn't that the greatest idea that you've ever encountered? Honestly. To be able to selflessly show someone that no matter what they're going through, no matter where life is taking them, no matter what they're feeling that there is someone out there in this great big world that is thinking of them and cheering them on and praying for them and just genuinely loving them is so heartwarming and brings tears to my eyes.

Loving others is the simplest thing that you can do in life. As a Christian, it's one of the biggest actions that I'm called to do; as a human being, it's one of the most decent things to do. If you can't go through life loving others and showing generosity and kindness, then what can you expect to receive from the world?

If mail isn't your thing (stamp prices, right?), then they encourage you to just leave "love letters" in random places that you go. That's actually how I found out about this awesome thing; someone had dropped a little note of encouragement in a library cubby during midterms last semester and left their website at the bottom. Best idea ever. They also have campus chapters that get together to write notes and letters and after finding out that we don't have one (according to the website, please correct me if I'm wrong and then get me connected) I submitted a form to bring one to the University of South Carolina.

It honestly makes my entire day better whenever I drop one of my letters into the mail or leave a note somewhere around campus. Just knowing that I have the possibility of changing how someone's day is going, helping someone feel a little more loved, a little bit better about the situation that they're in, or just put a smile on their face for a few seconds makes me happier in the long run.

There's so much going on in this world that can honestly drag you down to the lowest, but if we just spread a little more love around, wouldn't that just make everything better?

If you want to get in on the action, (why wouldn't you, duh), check them out! I promise you won't regret it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
