Rock bottom.
We've all been there.
It looks different for everyone.
Sometimes, life can take hit after hit, and you're left feeling hopeless. Like you've exhausted all of your resources and no amount of yoga or self-help podcasts can scrape you back up off the floor.
You keep seeking signs, looking for an escape, trying to find a way out. You beat yourself up over things that are out of your control, and you scrutinize every little detail of the things that are deep within it.
We crave change.
We lust after it, in all of its glory: full of promise and a hope for a brighter future.
But how do we attain it?
How do we enact change?
Do we chop all of our hair off? Ink up our bodies? Buy a whole new wardrobe? Flee to some remote island where no one knows our name?
When we want to healthily and wholly change ourselves, what are we supposed to do?
Start a revolution.
I'm not talking about your average, French-style "overthrowing the government" revolution.
I'm talking about rebelling against all the negativity harvested in your heart and overrunning it with good truths.
First things first, change the way you think.
Rock bottom is actually the best place to be, it's the only time in your life where the only place you can go is up. Realize that although you are grounded, you can use that ground to propel yourself forward.
Once you start your ascent, remember that it is OK to be a floater.
You don't always have to be at a measurable landmark. Being in limbo between your last milestone and your next goal is still an accomplishment, and you need to see it as such.
As long as you are actively working to be better than you were the day before, it is completely OK not to be at a definitive point.
Speaking of goals, remember that no improvement is too small.
Painting the trim around your bathroom door is just as big of an improvement as re-siding your entire house. It is a step in the right direction, and even the smallest one gets you that much closer to being a more healthy and more whole you!
Don't discredit your hard work, and don't talk down on yourself for making bits of progress over a long period of time as opposed to a full remodel in a couple of days.
Good things take time! Heck, think about all that time God poured over you before he breathed you to life.
Finally, make sure you're not in this alone!
Everyone needs someone on their side. Someone you can pour your heart out to while they, in turn, pour into you. Find someone you can trust to motivate you, keep you on track, cheer you on and love on you - even when things get rough!
Revolutionizing yourself does not mean you have to go into this alone. It doesn't force you into solitary confinement. It doesn't require you to be incapable of depending on others.
It means you fight for a change for the better. For yourself, for the relationships you invest in or the relationships you will find yourself in later in life, for a healthier and happier life.
