There’s something about summer that makes it seem infinite. That every hope, every dream you have can be accomplished in a few short months. But unfortunately if you’re like me, summer is never long enough and procrastination is your best friend and worst enemy. So all the dreams of shopping till you drop on Rodeo drive, the music festival you’re dying to go to, or the summer romance. They just never seem to happen, so instead of a summer of endless possibilities. You’re left dissatisfied especially after that one friend of yours shows you her countless stream of pictures. The highlights of her ten day adventure in Italy, where she met a guy named Sebastian who changed her life. Then she jetted off to Paris after a stint in England. The one friend who always has the summer, you wish you could have.
Each year the same routine of work, or summer school, maybe even wasting away in your bedroom. There’s always something in the way of the “great summer adventure.” The one thread holding you back, but this summer, choose one thing you want to accomplish. Realistically you may be unable to accomplish everything you desire, but choosing one thing is a start. Start saving for that trip to California, go see that show on Broadway. Lose yourself at Bonnaroo, make memories that you’ll never want to forget. Turn wishful thinking into reality, it may take an extra shift at the job you dislike. But it’s one step closer to the summer you’ve been waiting for.
My personal goal this summer: is to spend a few days on Vans Warped Tour. Travel with an amazing group of people, learn, and have an experience that’ll last a lifetime. After spending most of my life wishing, with my head buried in the next great teen novel. I knew that it was time to be proactive and stop dreaming. There’s only so many places you can imagine, until you finally decided to take that chance. At the end of summer we’ll see if I went and accomplished my goal, and hopefully you did too.
I hope you have the summer you’ve always wished for.
