Hello, my fellow Disney Addicts. I wanted to take a moment to celebrate who we are. We are the ones who refuse to let go of our childhood. We are the ones who get super excited for new Disney movies, the ones who will wait in line to see it, topping the excitement of the small children around us. We are the ones who sport our Disney attire with pride. We are the ones who will defend our favorite characters to the death. We are the ones who await the day when we can once again walk into the glorious gates of the Magic Kingdom, where we truly belong. Let’s take a moment to celebrate us.
As a true Disney fan, you know every song. You lip sync every word with passion. Sometimes you might even tear up a bit, but you won’t deny it. Those songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman speak to your heart. This can happen anytime and anywhere. Just the other day I took a break from my sculpture to lip sync in the Art Department. I was just casually listening to songs on YouTube when "Go the Distance" from Hercules popped up in the suggested videos. What else could I do, but take a moment to passionately lip sync that song with all my heart? As a true Disney fan you know that was the only option I had.
Another thing you have come to know as a Disney Fan is that you know what Disney Character you are. For example, I am Rapunzel from "Tangled." I am artistic like she is, pigeon-toed like she is, and I, too, am socially awkward even though I was not kept in a tower away from society all my life. I also would like to travel and see the world beyond my reach, except instead of being detained by a kidnapping crazy woman; I’m detained by my lack of money. Also, I’m a princess. I don’t care what anyone says.
Another thing you do as a Disney fan is take online quizzes to see what character you are. You also know how wrong those quizzes can be, because I know in my heart, I’m Rapunzel. That quiz has no idea who I am. Still, taking any kind of Disney quiz is fun. I may be Rapunzel, but I totally live in Prince Eric’s Castle by the sea. That’s my Disney house. You also know what Disney Villain you are, who your Disney Prince would be, and who is your Disney sidekick (Maleficent, Prince Philip, and Pascal). That’s just how it is.
If you've been blessed enough to take a trip to that magical place that is Disney World, then you know you’re already planning your next trip whether have the means to take that trip or not. I got to go this past summer and ever since then I get Disney World flash backs. There will be a smell or a sound that will take me back to that place. Honestly, there was one time I gave my boyfriend a hug. I pulled back and looked him straight in the eyes and said, “Oh my gosh. You smell like Disney World.” He didn't really know how to respond to that and I can’t blame him, but there’s something about Disney World that sticks with you.
We all have that one character that we will defend to the death. Although I consider myself to be most like Rapunzel, my favorite character of all time is that sassy little pixie, Tinkerbell. Almost all of my birthdays growing up were Tinkerbell themed. One of the first cosplays I put together was Tinkerbell and I want to do so many variations just so I can cosplay her all the time. I even bought one of those cute little Animator’s dolls they have now. How could I not own that? Tinkerbell is straight up pixie perfection.
Since you unfortunately cannot live in Neverland with Peter Pan, you have to grow up, so you might struggle with how you can integrate Disney into your adult life. Don’t worry. You can totally incorporate Disney decor into your house. You’re never too old to watch a Disney movie. Start cosplaying if you want to play dress up. It’s an art form and everyone at cons will respect you and celebrate your Disney pride. You can also just buy clothing with your favorite characters on them (thank you Hot Topic). If you’re still worried about how you can incorporate Disney into your life, just throw Disney at your nieces and nephews or prepare to throw Disney at your future children. Pass the Disney love down to younger generations! Never let it die!
Disney has been around for a long time and hopefully it will continue to go strong for many generations to come. It’s more than just a franchise. The movies and characters are always there to make us feel better. We will always have fond memories when it comes to Disney. We’ve learned so much from those films. There will always be Disney fans, but we are the Disney fans of today! Don’t forget to celebrate your Disney love!
