Things To Celebrate In August

If you are like me, you've been counting down the days until you move back in to your home away from home. You can't wait to be back with your friends on the campus where you belong. At the same time, there is a small part of you that isn't ready to leave your favorite places and friends from your hometown. However, as F. Scott Fitzgerald put it, "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." So, as we enter a new school year and, for some of us, a new chapter in our life, let us celebrate, not only beginnings and ends, but also these holidays.

1. National Ice Cream Sandwich Day - August 2nd

2. National Watermelon Day - August 3rd

3. Friendship Day - August 7thWhat would we do without them?

4. Sisters Day - August 7th

5. Book Lover's Day - August 9th

6. National S'mores Day - August 10th

7. International Lefthander's Day - August 13th

Lefty and proud.

8. National Relaxation Day - August 15th

For those of us that spent summer vacation working and taking summer classes, here is at least one day we should take off and relax!

9. National Tooth Fairy Day - August 22nd (and February 28th)

For those of you wondering if you can get anything for your wisdom teeth, this might be the best day to try -- just in time to get a little extra money to pay for those college textbooks.

10. National Dog Day - August 26th

I may not be a dog person (or much of a pet person in general), but how many people can say their school has a live mascot?!

11. National Race Your Mouse Day - August 29th

Whatever that means... hopefully you win.

12. National Toasted Marshmallow Day - August 30th

because National S'mores Day wasn't enough.

13. If these aren't enough, August is all National Picnic Month!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
