Everyone loves cats, some more than others, but nobody loves cats more than themselves. It's funny, though, because they seem to learn how to take over our lives and control us in some secretive, sly way that we will never be able to figure out. My mother has owned a cat rescue since I was nine years old, and I have always been a sucker for the adorable little beings myself. In the past month, I have begun running the rescue's social media sites in hopes of getting the kitties home, by using their adorable faces as bait for future adopters (@petangeladoption if you're interested). It seems to work, but why do they have this effect on us?
My brother, Alex, attempted to solve this mystery stating "Cat's are basically magical creatures from another world that tricked us into taking care of them. It started with the Egyptians, convincing them that they were gods, now they snuggle their way into our hearts." And I think he's onto something.
Here is five reason's why cats run the world.
1. Cats are fluffy and adorable
When you're sad, you're going to want that cat to snuggle up to you and give you love (because who doesn't love when a cat loves on them?) When you're in a good mood, you're going to want to pick them up and spin in circles while singing to them, because they will let you. When you're snuggled up with some hot chocolate on a cold winter night, that cat is going to jump up and snuggle up on your blanket and take a nap, which you're going to be 100% okay with, because if he doesn't you're going to call him up there to snuggle with you anyway. Those cute little eyes have you on lock down, they could be asking you for all the money in your bank account, and you're not going to say no.
What I'm trying to say here is that humans love cuddling with cats because their absolutely adorable. Which is their trap to getting us to love them.
2. Cats Always Know When Somethings Wrong
Humans enjoy when other's give them attention when something is wrong. Cat's are really good at doing this, even though they're only probably doing it because we feed them and if we are sad, they aren't going to get fed. But thats okay, because it makes us feel better. Win-Win situation.
3. Cats make men melt
They may not admit it but men love cats and it's adorable.
4. Cats have attitude
Cats do not take our crap, simply put. If we want them to come to us, we better give them the incentive to come to us. If you rub their bellies for too long, expect some claw's sunk into your hand. One minute of loving can become a wrestling match without warning. If they don't want to be picked up, and you try it, you can expect a growl, a hiss or a smack. Cat's may lay next to you, as if they want you to pet them, but the second you lay a hand on them, they aren't into it and you can tell you should stop.
Who run the world? Cats.
5. Cats lay everywhere they want
We may have litter box trained them, but they trained us to live around their lives.
We know your secret, kitties.
Buzzfeed and Purina paired up together to create a series called "Dear Kitten" in which an older cat teaches the new kitten how to run the house. (To watch one of the video's, click here) There are also multitude of "cat diaries" on the internet, where it sounds like the cat is keeping a diary of their lives while being held in captivity (If you're interested in reading these, click here)
Regardless of how cats really feel about us, they have us under their spell. And I think I'm 100% okay with it.
