The Five Categories of Movies You Should Watch This Break

I'm a huge movie person— always have been, probably always will be. I like being able to kick back and watch crazy people in their crazy lives go on adventures and battle demons, both inner and outer, and lose myself for a while.

Christmastime, though. Christmastime has it's OWN set of movies, and while I think it's about the greatest thing to binge my way through all the old Christmas classics, I have already spent some time watching movies with my family to force myself to relax after the semester. Christmas movies are some of them, but I've also made a list of other categories of movies you should watch before break is over to really satisfy that craving you've been longing for.

Now, I'd also suggest you watch movies over break with someone, or multiple someones. 'Tis the season for company!

1) Classic Christmas Film:

Everyone has their favorite Christmas film. For me, it's White Christmas. Not only do we get the traditional Christmas cheer, but also some epic song and dance routines. Combined with one of my favorite Christmas singers Bing Crosby, it's got to be the greatest film about Christmas and snow around. But everyone has their favorites. Whether it be Rudolph (come on, who can resist Silver and Gold?), FrostytheSnowman (the line about naming him Oatmeal is still a family joke), or Home Alone (A partridge in a pear tree...), just pull out your favorite Christmas film and enjoy it.

2) Something you've heard about, but never seen

I watched Meet Joe Black last night, on suggestion from my uncle, and it tugged at my heartstrings. Very sad, very beautiful film with an epic soundtrack. But I digress. Watch something you've heard mentioned or wanted to see, but never found the time to pick up yourself. Do yourself a favor, and give your brain a little bit of a workout so you can watch something entirely new. It'll be fun!

3) Something from your childhood

This morning, my brother and sister and I got it in our heads that what we really, REALLY needed was to watch The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue.

And we did.

And it was awesome.

Have a little fun and watch something that makes you nostalgic. It may not be as great as you remember it was as a child, but it still holds fond memories for you. Bask in the memories of your childhood, when you weren't worried about grades or finals or anything like that. Just take a few deep breaths, pop in that old VHS that you still have, and relax.

4) Something in theaters

Treat yourself out this holiday season and go and see something! We've been blessed with a ton of different films for all ages and all walks of life. Disney has a new princess in town, Star Wars has a new film, there's apparently one about Trolls —yes, go and see a fun movie. Go with friends! Show them the things you love! You can bet that I'm going to see Rogue One tonight with my friends! Have some fun and go watch something brand new!

5) Something based on a book

You might be able to get away with this in one of the other categories, but there are some awesome films out there based on books. They can be light and funny (Meet the Robinsons, Epic, Harry Potter), or some darker and more serious ones. You've been reading a LOT of books this semester, and it might be time to get back to the books you actually LIKED reading and pick them up and then watch the movie.

All in all, enjoy this Christmas season! Have a delightful time with your families! And find a way to relax during this insane time. You've already dealt with enough this semester.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
