As a college student, worrying comes easy. Worrying about tests, about homework, even worrying about planning and scheduling. There simply aren't enough hours in the day to get everything accomplished. And if you're like me, you worry about the future as well. I don't just mean what your life will look like after college, I mean the simple things like what your weekend plans are. Worrying is a part of our nature as humans. But when you stop and think about it, where does this worrying get us? (Hint: the answer is no where.)
I'll let you in on a secret: Worrying doesn't have to fall on our shoulders. Matthew 11:28 says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Friends, this verse is so important for two reasons. The first reason this verse is so important is because it shows us that we don't need to carry our burdens. Jesus died on the cross to carry those, and he wants us to share those things with Him.
To understand the second reason, you need to read a little deeper. The beginning of the verse says come. This screams prayer, friends. Prayer is so significant in your walk with the Lord. Just as you spend time with your earthly father, you need to spend twice as much time with your Heavenly Father. Take these burdens and these stressful situations to Him. Ask for the weight to be lifted off your shoulders.
We worry because we focus on ourselves instead of allowing ourselves to accept God's gift of resting in His embrace. This semester, don't let those tests or homework assignments or quizzes stress you out. Before you let the devil take hold of your heart, look to Jesus first for comfort and strength. Take refuge in His embrace because I promise you will find all that you need at the foot of His throne.
